Bitcoin fell below $76,000 on 5 November 2026 as US stocks reversed their post-midterm gains. Cointelegraph reported that the asset hit a seven-week low, and the sell-off continued into 6 November.
The drop followed a tech and AI-trade rout on Wall Street. BingX, citing SoSoValue data, reported that US stocks had their worst November since 2008. Social posts cited fears over AI data-center regulation and jobs data that reduced rate-cut hopes, but those causes are unconfirmed.
Derivatives data shows the selling was forced by longs. Liquidations totalled $332.8M across Binance, Bybit and OKX over 24 hours, and about 90% fell on long positions. Short liquidations were minimal. The Fear & Greed Index dropped to 27 (Fear), and Ethereum open interest fell 7.37%.

Binance hack and withdrawal reopening
Hackers stole $6.3 billion from Binance's hot wallets, which is described as the largest crypto heist on record. The FBI attributed the attack to North Korea's TraderTraitor unit, and North Korea denied involvement. Binance says it has replenished about 95-98% of the stolen assets with company funds. It resumed bitcoin and ether withdrawals on 1 November and reopened withdrawals for more assets on 5 November. Net outflows reached $4.72B as of 3 November.
Spot ETF outflows
US spot Bitcoin ETFs shed $430.2M on 5 November. Fidelity's FBTC led with $199.9M in outflows, and five-session outflows total $1.51B. Ethereum ETFs recorded $99.9M in net outflows the same day. Spot Ether ETFs lost $1.61B in October, their largest monthly outflow since the July 2024 launch.
SEC custody proposal
The SEC proposed significant changes to custody rules and a new framework for the custody of crypto assets. The proposal would move the Advisers Act custody rule from Rule 206(4)-2 to Rule 223-1.
