The latest crypto news update for 20 September 2026 is dominated by Bitcoin ETF inflows, institutional tokenization activity on Avalanche, and a sharp rotation into selected altcoins.

Top Story

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $433 million in inflows on Friday, 18 September. The inflow followed roughly $746 million in withdrawals across the previous two sessions.

The rebound strengthened the institutional demand narrative around Bitcoin, while Ethereum funds recorded approximately $140.6 million in weekly outflows. Zcash spot ETFs attracted $98.2 million during the week ending 18 September, according to separate market reports.

The flow divergence shaped sentiment across the market. Bitcoin traders on X focused on the $80,000 recovery and $83,000 resistance, while Ethereum traders remained constructive but less confident because of weaker fund flows.

Derivatives positioning also reset. Combined BTC and ETH liquidations reached $86.11 million, with $57.51 million from longs. Open interest fell 1.80% for BTC and 2.77% for ETH.

Avalanche tokenization activity drives AVAX interest

Avalanche rose 14.81% to $9.74 on $1.14B volume. Ava Labs said the New York Stock Exchange had tested Avalanche technology and economics for roughly one year for tokenized-securities infrastructure.

The NYSE has not selected a final blockchain, so the testing is exploratory rather than a confirmed partnership. New York Life Investment Management also announced a tokenized high-yield corporate-bond fund on Avalanche. Avalanche’s Helicon upgrade is scheduled for 22 September at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time.

Institutional Bitcoin bonds lift Stacks

Stacks gained 16.72% to $0.3198 on $72.76M volume after the launch of its first institutional Bitcoin bond with a staking program. Participants lock Bitcoin and hold STX worth approximately 5% of their Bitcoin position.

The program uses the PoX-5 hard fork and is designed to distribute Bitcoin yield through Stacks’ Proof-of-Transfer mechanism. Stacks says PoX has distributed more than 4,200 BTC since January 2021. A second bonding period is planned for early October 2026.

U.S. crypto rules move toward White House review

The CFTC submitted proposed rules titled “Regulation Crypto Asset Transactions and Regulation Crypto Asset Markets” to the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. The submission comes as Congress remains stalled on the Digital Asset Market CLARITY Act.

The SEC also published statements on 17 September regarding an “Innovation Exemption” through its Crypto Task Force. The reported framework would provide five years for qualifying tokenized-stock activity, although coverage said its scope may be limited to automated-market-maker venues.

In Brief

  • Ethereum’s Glamsterdam roadmap advanced, with the Sepolia testnet fork scheduled for 6 October 2026.

  • Zcash developers are targeting a November upgrade designed to make private payments up to three times faster.
  • Security firms attributed close to $2 million in losses to one attacker targeting Fetch.ai and NuNet on 19 September. Symbiosis also shut down its native Bitcoin bridge after an exploit, but no confirmed loss amount was reported.

What to Watch

  • Bitcoin support near $80,000 and the $83,000 resistance level highlighted by traders.
  • Ethereum near $2,600, with traders watching the $2,660–$2,690 resistance zone.
