Top Story
The Bitget breach estimate rose to approximately $387.5 million after unauthorized transfers from parts of the exchange’s wallet infrastructure. Bitget said customer balances and cold-storage wallets were unaffected.
The incident is the largest active security story in the market. Elliptic linked the laundering pattern to the North Korea-associated TraderTraitor group in an early assessment. The attacker also moved approximately $83 million in stolen XRP.
Bitget scheduled a phased withdrawal restart for 28 September 2026. Bitcoin withdrawals were due to reopen at 08:00 UTC, followed by Ethereum and other EVM networks on 29 September.
The security news added to a risk-off session, although strong exchange-traded fund demand provided support. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted roughly $2.4 billion during the week ending 25 September, their strongest weekly inflow since October 2025.

Other Key Events
ETF demand clashes with geopolitical risk
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded roughly $2.4 billion of inflows in the week ending 25 September. The buying reversed a reported $5.8 billion 2026 outflow deficit, bringing year-to-date net inflows near $800–934 million in the available reports.
That institutional demand did not prevent a market decline on 28 September. Bitcoin and Nasdaq futures fell after U.S. President Donald Trump declined to rule out additional strikes on Iran. Crude oil rose roughly 1% to approximately $93.28 per barrel, adding pressure to broader risk assets.
Derivatives show a long-position flush
Bitcoin and Ethereum recorded combined liquidations of $83.88 million over 24 hours. Long positions accounted for 82.6% of the total, including $39.05 million of Bitcoin longs and $30.19 million of Ethereum longs.
Bitcoin open interest fell 1.71% over two days to $54.33 billion. Ethereum open interest declined 0.14% to $34.00 billion. Ethereum positioning was especially one-sided, with 73.8% of Binance accounts long and a 2.81 long-to-short ratio.
