The biggest crypto story of the last 24 hours is the Binance hack, which Binance says affected about $6.3 billion in client assets. Bitquery reports the attacker moved funds from 17 hot wallets across nine chains between 20:04 and 23:56 UTC on 29 October 2026. Binance attributes the breach to a compromised DevOps engineer's laptop and says it found no evidence of a wallet private-key leak.
If the $6.3 billion figure holds, it would be the largest crypto theft on record. TRM Labs and Chainalysis attribute the attack to North Korea's TraderTraitor group, with high confidence. Elliptic says no government or law enforcement agency has confirmed attribution. Frozen-fund estimates also differ, with Elliptic verifying $2.84 billion, Bitquery reporting about $2.7 billion and Chainalysis about $2.8 billion.
Binance has set aside more than $6.34 billion to cover losses. Its second update targets a phased withdrawal restart within about 34 hours, subject to security checks. Market reaction was broad. Derivatives data shows $130.75 million in Bitcoin liquidations over 24 hours, with 71.3% of that from longs. The Fear & Greed Index reads 31, in the "Fear" zone.
