Starknet (STRK) is a high-risk, speculative asset, and the evidence available on 1 November 2026 does not show it is a good investment on current fundamentals. Its technology and team are strong, but usage, fee revenue and value capture for the STRK token are weak, and a large unlock schedule runs through March 2027. The case for Starknet rests mainly on future adoption as an Ethereum scaling layer.
STRK trades at $0.04362 with a 24h change of +0.11%, 99.01% below its all-time high of $4.41. Its market cap is $334.37M (rank #182), on 24h volume of $48.81M.
Technology and team
Starknet uses zero-knowledge STARK proofs, which do not require a trusted setup, and Cairo-native development. Santiment's March 2026 ranking placed it first among Layer 2s for developer activity, although crypto-wide commits fell about 75% from early 2025 according to CoinDesk.
Co-founder and CEO Eli Ben-Sasson co-invented STARKs and was a founding scientist of Zcash. StarkWare raised a $30M Series A led by Paradigm in 2018, a $50M Series C led by Sequoia at a $2B valuation in 2021, and a $100M Series D at an $8B valuation in 2022. Indexed.vc records $273.0M in total funding. Set against that, a third-party aggregator estimates annual revenue at $1M to $10M, and the Chief Architect role ended in August 2026 according to a LinkedIn profile.
Adoption and fee revenue
Activity contracted sharply in late October 2026. DefiLlama showed 24h transactions falling from 145,594 on 23 October to 79,169 on 26 October, and DeFi TVL stood at $40.42m on 26 October. Growthepie reported daily active addresses of 2K on 31 October, down 46.3% week over week. Bridge inflows held up, with StarkGate TVL rising to $265.5m on 29 October from $237.54m on 30 September.
Fee revenue is small. DefiLlama recorded 30-day fees of $1.49m on 31 October, down 73.49% week over week. Plisio argues that fee revenue is too small to support meaningful buybacks or burns. Staking is the main demand driver, with about 1.54 billion STRK staked across 137 validators as of 17 October 2026, according to Postquantum. Rewards are paid in newly minted STRK, which dilutes holders who do not stake.
Competitive position
Starknet trails the leading rollups on value secured. Cryptoticker's 22 October 2026 figures put Arbitrum at $10.17B and OP Mainnet at $1.84B, against $395M for Starknet, down 39.9%. Eco's April 2026 stablecoin TVL ranking placed Starknet eighth among the top eight Layer 2s, with about $190M.
Supply and unlocks
Circulating supply is 7,664,828,795 STRK against a total of 10,184,600,000 STRK. Investor allocations (18.17%) and early contributor allocations (20.04%) are large. Documentation schedules up to 127M STRK to unlock on the 15th of each month through 15 March 2027. DefiLlama separately lists a cliff of 226.36M STRK on 13 November 2026, worth about $10.04M, which conflicts with that schedule and should be verified against official documentation.
Institutional interest and holders
Anchorage Digital launched STRK custody and staking on 3 September 2025. No spot ETF filing was found. Santiment reported that the top 10 addresses held about 7.09B STRK on 12 October 2026, while Deep Blue Alpha tracked a 30-day whale net outflow of $945.4K. Open interest stood at $96.05M, about 66% below its 90-day peak, and the Fear & Greed Index read 35.
Risks
- Technical: Starknet suffered a sequencer halt of 2 hours and 44 minutes on 2 September 2025. A January 2026 incident rolled back about 18 minutes of on-chain activity, according to a Gate post-mortem.
- Decentralization: Postquantum, citing L2BEAT, reports five permissioned sequencers controlled by StarkWare. A July 2026 proposal would cut the validator cap from more than 130 to 31.
- Privacy: L2BEAT states that STRK20 fails its walkaway test, so users cannot fully exit if centralized participants disappear.
- Governance: A non-binding Snapshot vote in October 2026 backed researching a post-quantum Layer 1 with 93.52% support, but Capy Research reports that L2BEAT's governance team voted against it.
- Regulatory: The research found no specific regulatory action against STRK.
- Market cycles: The research did not include a full cycle-by-cycle price history. The 7-day change is -6.54% and the 30-day change is -0.71%.
Bull and bear case
Bull case: Strong technical foundations, a credible founding team, tier-one venture backing, institutional custody, a large staking base and a price far below its all-time high.
Bear case: Activity fell sharply in October 2026, fee revenue is minimal, Starknet ranks well behind leading rollups, sequencing is centralized, and recurring unlocks add supply pressure.
Risk and reward
The upside depends on adoption translating into token demand, and current data does not yet show that link. Staking provides a demand source, but it comes with dilution. The downside is supported by falling usage, weak fees and a heavy unlock calendar. On present evidence, the risks are better documented than the rewards.
