The top 3 coins to watch this week

As we move through Q4, a number of cryptocurrency projects are moving ahead with continued development, and this week’s choices are set to benefit from significant updates and announcements that should strengthen their market positions and benefit their communities. The news should also result in increased amounts of attention to each respective currency over the coming weeks.

1. Stellar (XLM)

Stellar is a crypto platform that’s designed to enable fast, secure, and low cost money transfers. Designed for individuals as well as enterprises, Stellar makes it possible to send money across borders and facilitates low-cost payments between currencies as transactions sent via the Stellar network take an average of 2-5 seconds to clear, while the base fee for sending a transaction currently stands at only 0.0001 XLM.

The Protocol 15 upgrade vote is approaching

The team have reminded community members that network validators will be able to vote on upgrading the public network to Protocol 15 on November 23 at 16:00 UTC. The Protocol 15 upgrade aims to fix a transaction bug that could cause validators to crash, and validators running Stellar Core are urged to install v15.0.0 while anyone running Horizon should install v1.11.0 ahead of the validator upgrade voting procedure.

The Protocol 15 upgrade will also incorporate new Claimable Balances and Sponsored Reserves features and the team outline the improvements here, and provide all the necessary information on the voting procedure here

2. Ampleforth (AMPL)

Ampleforth is synthetic commodity money, with an advanced protocol that uses trusted oracles to obtain accurate and fluid exchange-rate data. It propagates this information to holders of AMPL through a pro rata increase or decrease in the number of tokens each user holds, producing an end price with a lower correlation to Bitcoin and other digital assets.

The Beehive V3 Geyser launches this week

The Ampleforth team have confirmed that the next Ampleforth Geyser will be the Beehive V3 Geyser, which is set to launch on November 24. Ampleforth Geysers are part of the project’s liquidity mining program and incentivize on-chain liquidity, and enable users to receive AMPL in return for acting as liquidity providers on automated market making platforms. Anyone contributing tokens to platforms such as Uniswap and Balancer can receive a share of any AMPL pool, and the team outline how their Geysers work here

3. Horizen (ZEN)

Horizen is a privacy platform that enables encrypted messaging, and incorporates supernodes and Zk-snarks technology. Horizen was originally based on Zcash and uses a decentralized governance model. The project was previously known as ZenCash.

The ZEN 2.0.22 hard fork is days away

The project continues to upgrade its network and the ZEN 2.0.21 deprecation took place last week at Block 831936. This will be followed up by the activation of a Mainnet Hard Fork at Block 835968 which is estimated to occur on November 24/25. The Hard Fork will be followed by a Block Reward Halving which kicks in at Block 840000 which is estimated to occur around December 01/02.

In order to remain in sync with the network, all exchanges, mining pools, node operators, and full node wallet users must upgrade to ZEN 2.0.22 as soon as possible in order to retain access to their funds. The ZEN 2.0.22 upgrade incorporates a number of improvements and the team outline all the key information and software update details here

How did the coins perform last week?

The seven-day period generally led to positive results across the cryptocurrency market. Zcash made a gain of around 6%, while Cosmos improved by 7%. Golem posted a similar performance, also improving by around 7%. Over the course of the week, the total cryptocurrency market cap moved from $462B to $525B.
