Coca-Cola Amatil will now be accepting payments in cryptocurrency through its vending machines operating in Australia and New Zealand. This is the result of a new deal between the top Asia-Pacific soft-drink bottler and distributor and digital asset platform Centrapay.

Based on the announcement, the agreement between Centrapay and Coca-Cola Amatil in Australia and New Zealand is to offer Amatil’s customers the option of using their Sylo Smart Wallet to pay for items across Amatil’s vending network using cryptocurrency.

Coca-Cola Amatil has a network of over two thousand vending machines in Australia and New Zealand and they are now capable of allowing people to use cryptocurrency for payment after installing the Sylo Smart Wallet into them. This is possible by scanning a QR code payment sticker using smartphone cameras.

Sylo Smart Wallet is a decentralized app that allows the integration of messaging services with a digital wallet, supporting top cryptocurrencies like BTC and any ERC-20 token. According to the CEO of Centrapay, Jerome Faury, it is necessary to limit physical contact in retail locations as a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic. Centrapay’s deal with the bottling firm stands as the initial step in bringing easier access to cryptocurrency for global consumers.

Faury said the deal has proved this can work anywhere worldwide; hence, the firm is looking to grow the business worldwide. Centrapay is already in North America and the U.S. market is its immediate target, Faury said. The firm is focused on dealing with the challenges hindering the adoption of Web 3.0 technologies, especially digital assets and digital identity services.

The focus of Centrapay and Coca-Cola Amatil is on consumers and merchants, while other Coca-Cola bottlers have incorporated blockchain technology into their supply chain network. Eight months ago, Coke One North America started using a blockchain solution from SAP to manage its supply chain.
