Several institutions and businesses have been deploying the blockchain technology to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease. Cryptopress news reported today that masters students at Malta University are using a blockchain-powered platform to conduct elections amid the COVID-19 lockdown.

Another notable company which has reportedly been exploring blockchain in its services is Shenzhen-based company SF Express. It is the second-largest courier services provider in China.  According to the company, the blockchain technology has also proven to be useful in tracking the origin and checking the quality of medical goods supply.

The company said it is exploring the application of the technology to the transportation of key supplies related to COVID-19. Deploying the blockchain, will enable their system to track, verify, and record each transaction in the logistics process, which will enable them to identify the priority level of each order.

As it stands now, the extent and status of SF Express’ implementation of blockchain is not clearly known. However, the company has already started to establish the use of blockchain, especially in the transportation of essential products like medicines and foods.

Aside using blockchain, the company is also reportedly using big data to build a trackable logistics network. This solution will be able to effectively identify supply priority levels and reduce the entry of fake and unqualified products entering the market.

Alongside blockchain and big data, the report also noted artificial intelligence as the key technologies that are helping frontline medical workers and suppliers to provide relief efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

China’s e-commerce giants, Alibaba Group and technology firm, Huawei are all reportedly channeling their energies on providing artificial intelligence (AI) solutions that can improve diagnostic solutions for the public health crisis. Huawei is more focused on providing AI CT scanning system to countries like the Philippines.
