Huobi Charity to Donate $50,000 In Huobi Tokens to Support Indonesians Amid COVID-19 Crisis

The Charity arm of Huobi Group has announced its plans to distribute aid to support Indonesia’s fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the announcement, Huobi Charity, in partnership with the Indonesia-China Association of Economic, Social and Cultural Cooperation (ICAESCC), will distribute aid to Indonesia, amid this crisis. They will be making monetary contributions, donate essential medical supplies, and also use blockchain to assist the country in healthcare delivery.

Huobi Charity will donate an amount of about $50,000 worth of Huobi tokens (HT) to ICAESCC for the procurement of medical supplies for hospitals in the region. According to Huobi Group’s Vice President of Global Business, Ciara Sun, the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting everyone in every part of the world, regardless of industry, socioeconomic status or nationality.

Sun added that, for the sake of the frontline healthcare workers and the millions of lives at risk, the group needs a concerted effort. They are therefore calling on the broader blockchain and crypto communities to join forces with them amid their fight against the pandemic.

The group’s Indonesian subsidiary, Huobi Indonesia is the second-largest Indonesian crypto trading platform by volume. It has generated approximately $2.25 million within the past 24 hours, from 29 trading pairs.

The trading platform has developed an online portal for both fiat and crypto donations to ICAESCC. The exchange is required to work with ICAESCC to provide administrative services and also promote the platform. The two will also work together to distribute the essential medical supplies. The developed portal is currently available in 3 languages namely, English, Indonesian and Chinese.

Huobi Global is not the first from the crypto industry which has made this move. Other industry players like Binance and Stellar Development Foundation (SDF) have already taken that step. Through its Charity arm, Binance launched a global campaign to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, after launching the ‘Binance for Wuhan’ project in February. Just yesterday, the SDF also donated 2.5 million XLM to support a selected Group of Charities to fight the pandemic.
