Ledger, a digital asset security company, has announced the release of a new device called the Ledger Stax. Ledger collaborated on the release with Tony Fadell, the iPod’s designer. The device has a curved E Ink display that shows users’ favorite artwork even when the device is turned off.

Quick Take:

  • Ledger worked with iPod designer Tony Fadell. The device’s curved E Ink display shows users’ artwork even when it’s off.
  • Ledger Stax can be pre-ordered on Ledger.com for Q1 2023.
  • Ledger Connect, the company’s upcoming crypto wallet extension, will connect to Web3 apps.

The company plans to release Ledger Stax in the first quarter of 2023, but you can order it ahead of time on Ledger.com right now. In the United States, stores like Best Buy will also be able to sell it in the coming months. Plus,  Ledger Stax connects to laptops with a USB-C port and hooks up to smartphones with the Ledger Live Mobile app via Bluetooth.

The company’s new crypto wallet add-on, Ledger Connect, will also let it connect to Web3 apps. Ledger Stax can also be charged wirelessly with Qi.

Why is Ledger Stax Important?

Ledger’s new wallet comes out at a very important time. After the FTX crypto scandal, both fans and doubters of Web3 are looking for ways to make it safer.

“With the Ledger Nano series, we created the most successful digital asset security hardware of all time—with more than 5 million sold and none ever hacked. Digital assets are increasingly about identity and digital ownership, not just crypto like Bitcoin. The time is now for a device for more mainstream users. At the same time, we must not compromise on security.”

Pascal Gauthier, CEO and Chairman of Ledger

The new Ledger wallet has a much more user-friendly interface than its predecessors. Users can use a touch interface to manage their NFT collection and more than 500 coins.

Every Ledger Stax comes with an Infinity Pass, which gives the user a free NFT that will be useful in the future. Also, you can mint a Ledger Stax NFT on Ledger Market to get access to exclusive NFT artwork from the company’s network of hand-picked artists. Ledger Market Genesis Pass holders get first dibs on this piece of art.

The Future

This is one of the first times a major hardware wallet company has tried to make digital asset security more “Apple-like.” Given the success of companies like Apple that have put a lot of thought into their user interfaces over the years, this could be the start of a trend that would help people get started with Web3.

Ledger has already made a name for itself as one of the best hardware wallet Web3 companies, and it’s clear that it wants to take over a market that is expected to be worth $1.72 billion by 2030. Security could end up being the least of Web3’s problems when it comes to bringing more people on board since sceptics keep saying that the biggest problem in the space is the lack of protection against scams and the volatility of cryptocurrencies.
