The Goerli Testnet Will Be Kept As A Canary Network, As The Community Approves

GoerliDAO, a newly formed decentralized autonomous organization, has proposed that Ethereum’s Goerli test network be kept as a Canary network.

Goerli is an Ethereum testnet that is utilized by developers all around the world. The testnet’s lifetime runs from Q1/2019 to Q4/2023, after which it will be “deathed” and moved to the Holesovice testnet. The Merge and other significant improvements have been tested on this platform. An unnamed autonomous group called GoerliDAO recommended in a post earlier this week to keep this testnet functioning due to its evident effect on the community.

As a result, the platform proposes devising a mechanism to make this testnet an official Ethereum Canary network. Unlike the test network, the Canary network is primarily intended to review upgrades closer to the mainnet before they are released.

GoerliDAO elaborates:

“Goerli’s popularity in-app makes it an ideal candidate to become Ethereum’s official Canary network.” It will provide distinct benefits to both developers and users. As an example, consider the success of Kusama – Polkadot.”

LayerZero released the Testnet Bridge last month, a bridge between the Ethereum mainnet and the Goerli tesnet that helps to simplify asset transfers between the two chains. This action by LayerZero sparked a lot of criticism when it mistakenly made this testnet appear to be a legitimate blockchain.

The main benefit of Testnet Bridge is that it eliminates the requirement to obtain gETH via faucet, which takes a long time to gather, and instead allows users to spend swap money immediately. Despite concerns about the necessity to maintain the characteristics of a test network, the price of gETH reached $ 1.60 at one time owing to increased demand.
