Ethereum Name Service news today centers on the ENSv2 mainnet launch, which went live on October 27, 2026. No ENS-specific development dated within the last 24 hours has been confirmed. ENS trades at $4.99, up 0.88% over 24 hours and down 3.45% over seven days.
ENSv2 goes live on Ethereum mainnet
ENS said it launched ENSv2, its next-generation naming protocol, on the Ethereum mainnet, and it dated the announcement to October 27. Each domain can now operate as its own onchain registry, letting communities and organizations set subdomain issuance rules and delegate permissions by area. A single name can function like its own on-chain naming system, while management rights for specific subdomains can be assigned separately.
The release also brought a new ENS app for general users and ENS Explorer for developers. The ENS app simplifies name registration and renewal, profile settings and notifications, while ENS Explorer lets users check a name's change history, controller, connection method and settings.
What happens to existing names
Current names do not need to be registered again. Users who want access to the new features can upgrade their existing .eth names to ENSv2 through the ENS app. The migration has no deadline, but the move itself is one-way. There would be no migration deadline. Moving a name to ENSv2 would, however, be irreversible.
Ecosystem support
ENS reports more than 36 million names across .eth and various ecosystem namespaces, and more than 600 applications also support ENS name resolution. Several large services are adjusting for the upgrade. 1inch, MetaMask, Safe, Uniswap, PayPal, Venmo and OpenSea are adapting their services for ENSv2.
Commemorative NFT
To mark the launch, ENS unveiled a commemorative collection. Users who upgrade all eligible names can claim a commemorative NFT designed by Polyhop, limited to one per wallet; an Ethereum network gas fee applies. Eligibility is based on a snapshot taken on June 1, 2026. The snapshot also determines the name displayed on the card: if the address has a primary name set, the primary name is shown; if not, the name held the longest is displayed.
Governance background
The upgrade followed a governance vote. The proposal, led by Nick Johnson, passed with strong support. Before launch, ENSv2 activation was queued for execution, setting up a mainnet transition that would end new .eth registrations on ENSv1.
Market reaction
Trading activity has cooled since the launch. Coinbase's market page reports that trading activity slowed roughly 70% over the past 24 hours even as the buyer-to-seller ratio reached 1.31, while exchange inflows exceeded outflows by approximately $0.6M over the same period.
