Pearl news today is centered on a proposed hard fork that would move PRL mining from integer-based calculations to floating-point computation, potentially reshaping which graphics cards can participate in the network. The update was published on October 7, 2026, by Kryptex Pool, which reported that Pearl’s PIP-3 specification remains in draft and that no activation date or block height has been set.
Pearl news today: FP8 fork could reshape PRL mining
Under the proposed change, Pearl would transition from INT7 × INT7 → INT32 calculations to FP8 × FP8 → FP32 computations. The new certificate format would require all network nodes to upgrade because older nodes would not accept certificates generated under the revised protocol.
The current PIP-3 draft specifies two supported device classes: NVIDIA Hopper and NVIDIA Blackwell. Kryptex said Pearl developers confirmed during a September 15 AMA that the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell would continue mining after the fork. Support for Hopper hardware was also strengthened on September 27, 2026, through pull request #337 in Pearl’s open-source codebase.
The proposed specification does not currently include profiles for NVIDIA Ampere, Turing or Ada GPUs, nor for AMD hardware. As a result, RTX 30-series, RTX 20-series and RTX 40-series cards could lose the ability to generate valid mining certificates if the draft becomes final without broader device support. AMD cards with FP8 capability may be technically able to perform the calculations, but they are not included in the current protocol profile.
The change is intended to align mining with floating-point workloads used in artificial intelligence, although it would also create greater hardware dependence. Kryptex reported that FP4 support is planned separately, with development expected to require additional work and no announced release date.
Until activation, PRL mining is expected to continue under the existing system. Miners will need to monitor official node and miner releases and update their software when the fork is scheduled. The lack of a confirmed date means hardware operators still have time to assess potential profitability, but equipment that falls outside the final certificate specification could face reduced utility after activation.
PRL market response
Pearl is trading at $1.36, up +22.16% over 24 hours, according to the market snapshot captured on October 8, 2026. Its market capitalization is $460.78M, ranking #169, while 24-hour volume stands at $6.57M. The token remains 22.55% below its all-time high of $1.76.
The proposed fork arrives as Pearl continues positioning its blockchain around proof-of-useful-work, where mining computation is designed to contribute to AI-related workloads rather than relying solely on conventional hashing. However, the final technical requirements and activation timeline remain unresolved, making the draft specification—not a completed network upgrade—the key development for miners today.
