Hunter Biden’s LAPTOP memecoin remains under heavy selling pressure on Thursday, September 10, after its volatile launch on Coinbase’s Base network the previous day. CoinStats data showed the token trading at approximately $0.87, down 14% over one hour, with a market capitalization of about $305 million and 24-hour trading volume near $33 million. Prices varied substantially across market trackers, underscoring the token’s extreme volatility.
Sharp decline follows launch surge
The token reportedly began trading on September 9 at $37.26, briefly climbed to $222.75, and then fell to approximately $1.34 by the afternoon, according to The New York Times. Other market coverage described a decline of roughly 99% from the launch peak.
Hunter Biden attributed the dramatic price movement to predatory trading and technical issues in an X post, saying the price had stabilized at a “healthy” level. The project’s promotional messaging presents LAPTOP as a political statement linked to the controversy surrounding the laptop Biden left at a Delaware repair shop in 2019.
Token structure and distribution
LAPTOP has a stated maximum supply of 1 billion tokens. Reporting on the launch plan said:
- 30% was allocated to founders, including Hunter Biden; those tokens are reportedly locked for six months and then released over more than two years.
- 20% was designated for airdrops, including distributions to some wallets that lost money on Donald Trump’s TRUMP memecoin and to Biden’s Substack subscribers.
- 20% was reserved for liquidity, exchange listings and legal expenses.
- The remaining allocation is tied to conditional burns and milestone-based events.
Planned burn conditions reportedly include Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high, a Democratic victory in the 2028 presidential election, or LAPTOP surpassing TRUMP in market capitalization.
Exchange and market reaction
The launch drew skepticism before trading began. CoinDesk reported that Kraken deleted a promotional post after backlash, while a media organization mentioned in the token’s distribution materials publicly distanced itself from the project.
The token’s Base contract listed by CoinStats is 0xb095274743941e953c746f9c228da9c18bb6ec29. Multiple unrelated tokens using the LAPTOP name and ticker also appeared on Binance Smart Chain, with several showing no current price or sharp reported declines. Those assets should not be assumed to be affiliated with the Base-based project.
The available market data indicates that LAPTOP remains highly speculative, with large intraday price swings, fragmented listings and no reported conventional utility beyond its political branding and community-oriented distribution plans.
