Flag Day

Flag Day explores the American flag as historical and cultural artifact through systematic visual degradation. Each variation subjects the same icon to a different form of corruption: thick impasto digital texture, source degradation, simulated physical weathering, and gradual erasure. The flag has always been underneath my current works. Every grain silo, every storefront, every faded surface documented from the cab; the familiar was always there.. the flag was already in it. I just had to drive long enough to see it. These works are not objects of worship but records: artifacts that carry the weight of use, the complexity of context, and the ongoing negotiation of what symbols can represent.
