In the A/D World there are 4 base elements: Fire, Water, Grass, and Psychic. However, there are rumored Special Elements said to be floating around. Special Elements are extremely rare and heavily sought after. The elemental cards will be used to upgrade your trainer visually in addition to non-visually(stats) as well.
