Ethereum Foundation Rolls Out $1M Security Program for Ethereum Builders

The Ethereum Foundation has launched a new $1 million security subsidy program to support developers building on the layer-1 blockchain. This move comes at a time when security remains a major concern in the crypto space. Hacks and exploits still lead to huge losses, and many projects struggle to afford proper protection.

Boosting Security for Developers

Through this program, the Foundation is offering subsidies for smart contract audits. These audits help detect vulnerabilities before a project goes live. However, they are often expensive, especially for smaller teams. By reducing these costs, the program encourages developers to build safer applications from the start.

The process is simple and accessible. Developers building on the Ethereum mainnet can start by submitting an application through the official form. After that, an expert committee reviews the application. If selected, the subsidy is provided, allowing teams to request audit services, receive quotes, and begin the process.

The Foundation noted that the program aligns with its broader CROPS principles: censorship resistance, open source, privacy, and security. Developers building new use cases or experimenting with emerging technologies can access top-tier security services at a reduced cost. As a result, this lowers the barrier to entry and encourages more builders to launch on Ethereum.

At the same time, this initiative supports the long-term growth of Ethereum. Safer applications mean fewer hacks, stronger trust, and more users joining the network. As activity on Ethereum grows, security becomes even more important.

Industry Collaboration Drives the Initiative

According to the Tuesday post, this program is not a solo project. The Ethereum Foundation has partnered with digital asset advisory firm Areta to tap its audit marketplace, which connects Ethereum builders to a pool of about 20 professional audit firms.

Additionally, the program is backed by key industry players, including Nethermind and Chainlink Labs. Together, they help review applications and guide the process. This ensures that strong and promising projects receive support.

Moreover, the initiative is also part of a broader vision known as the “Trillion Dollar Security Initiative.” The goal is to prepare the network to handle much larger values safely in the future. By investing in audits now, the ecosystem reduces risks before they become serious problems.
