Hey all,

I’m a long time sceptic of blockchain/web3 but the recent essay on SBTs piqued my interest. I’m curious to see how I can further this cause and am brainstorming the commercial applications of SBTs.

I feel like there’s no immediate use, or even short term use tbh. But where do we see them actually having an impact outside of the suggestions in the essay?

I can see them as maybe useful for things like CVs/resumes, diplomas and credentialling. The social recovery is interesting but again, so much adoption has to take place for that to be feasible or valuable. But part of me thinks ‘why bother’. I like the sound of this technology and I think it could be promising in theory, but I fail to actually see any practical use cases that are productive or valuable.

However I see a dark potential in terms of forcing identity and credentials on people. I feel like you won’t have an option on whether or not to adopt the SBTs and they will become ubiquitous over time without anyone necessarily consenting to them. Part of me thinks they offer more value to large corporates

It feels like another phase of ‘permissionless innovation’ from the tech elite….or am I wrong? It feels like a way to extend control over those in the blockchain world, extending uniformity and conformity.
