It is not just a meme. It is a place to start. 2020 holds fantastic opportunity for the tech that is behind block chain to begin its launch into the mainstream of business and life. I have been in the an industry for more than 15 years. In the last year we have begun speaking specifically about smart contracts and also decentralized storage. At the moment a decentralized storage is more the order of business. Companies want a safe and secure way to safe data in a way that will ensure that even if their systems were destroyed, their data would still be preserved.
It has been best described like this; Company A wishes to back up its data. Servers can be corrupted, and even changed by outside sources (hackers). They can also be unintentionally compromised through users who happen to click on the wrong link which could allow a back door into the system. Such things are limited in the block chain. You control the keys, you control the data.
Currently a number of teams are working toward decentralization. One of those is Ether-1 with its node solution known as EthoFS. The application is simple. It has a very nice user interface allowing people to be able to upload documents into the block chain and as a result storing their data in a decentralized manner. Safely stored, the business could focus on growing their business instead of ensuring back ups are safe even if the absolutely worst damage to their network ever took place.
Reports are boring but necessary for the running of a business. Having what is needed is essential to running a business. It is also important to note that the immutable nature of the block chain is also a vital aspect for a business. Imagine you were in the legal field and needed to have accessible back ups of documents for legal purposes. Once again, the block chain can perform this function for you. The original signed documents could be stored in an office and potentially lost, but the copy uploaded into the block chain would allow be accessible despite what ever may happen to the original.
What else could be decentralized? Everything! It is not a meme because the technology is so new we have only touched the tip of the iceberg. I know for a fact the Ether-1 network can host data through its block chain and could be used to host data and by pass the gate keepers of the internet today. If you have ever known of a channel removed from YouTube or some other such cite, they could easily host their content from the block chain and operate fully in a decentralized platform.
The best thing is, this now exists. One of the things that has been most frightening in the modern age is the control of data and more importantly the silencing of voices. This is an aspect that goes beyond the use case of a business. This begins to come into our homes. To be unpersoned on the internet is often times something that can completely destroy a person and their income if they used their persona as a way of making income. We are going into a hugely political year. I first got into block chain as a result of the political season leading up to 2016. I realized then that decentralization was vital for a free future. Ether-1 is helping to create that. Take the time, look them up. Their YouTube has a demonstration of how easy the EthoFS is to use. You will not be disappointed. The future is ready. Are we?
