  • Humanity Protocol accounted for June’s biggest exploit losses reported overall.
  • PeckShield recorded forty major incidents totaling $75.87 million during June.
  • Bridge exploits and MEV attacks exposed persistent blockchain security weaknesses.

Blockchain security firm PeckShield reported that hackers stole approximately $75.87 million across 40 major crypto security incidents in June. Although total losses declined from May, the Humanity Protocol exploit accounted for more than 40% of the month’s stolen funds, while bridge protocols continued attracting attackers.

PeckShield’s data showed that June’s losses fell about 7% from the $81.7 million recorded in May. However, attackers continued exploiting familiar weaknesses across decentralized finance platforms, smart contracts, cross-chain bridges, and compromised administrator accounts. Humanity Protocol recorded the largest single exploit during the month. The project lost about $31 million, making it the biggest contributor to June’s overall crypto losses.

According to PeckShield, the attackers quickly transferred the stolen assets across several blockchain networks, including Bitcoin, Solana, Hyperliquid, and BNB Chain. That movement makes investigations more difficult because criminals split funds, bridge assets between networks, and swap tokens before authorities can trace or recover them.

Additionally, PeckShield said the Humanity Protocol exploit could be linked to the earlier KelpDAO attack. Investigators found that some of the stolen assets were mixed with funds associated with the KelpDAO exploiter, suggesting a possible connection between the two incidents.

Bridge exploits and MEV attacks continue exposing security weaknesses

The Syscoin Bridge exploit ranked as June’s second-largest crypto attack after hackers stole approximately $10 million. Meanwhile, the JaredFromSubway.eth Maximal Extractable Value bot incident caused another $7.5 million in losses. Unlike conventional hacks, the JaredFromSubway.eth incident did not exploit a flaw in smart contract code. Instead, attackers manipulated transaction ordering within blockchain networks to extract value from users, highlighting another growing security challenge for decentralized ecosystems.

Moreover, bridge infrastructure remained a recurring target throughout June. Aztec Bridge and Aztec Connect suffered combined losses of around $4 million during separate incidents. Taiko Bridge also recorded approximately $1.7 million in stolen assets. These repeated breaches highlight the ongoing risks surrounding cross-chain bridge protocols. Bridges often secure large pools of digital assets while relying on complex smart contract systems that require continuous monitoring and security improvements.

Furthermore, compromised administrator accounts and vulnerable DeFi protocols continued contributing to monthly losses. The pattern suggests attackers are combining technical exploits with operational weaknesses instead of relying on a single attack method.

Conclusion

June’s decline in overall crypto losses did not reduce the industry’s security concerns. According to PeckShield, attackers continued targeting high-value protocols, with Humanity Protocol leading the month’s losses and bridge infrastructure remaining one of the most exploited sectors. The latest figures show that securing cross-chain systems and strengthening operational defenses remain critical priorities across the crypto ecosystem.
