Block Wars

I've read about the block wars, but since then numerous people have onboarded to bitcoin, probably without really exploring any other coins. There is so much pro-bitcoin media out there, a huge community, that it is near impossible to get an objective perspective. I am happy for bitcoin and the lightning network being able to increase transaction speed, but I really feel that 2nd layer tech defeats the purpose of the decentralized nature of this new money. I also see that bitcoin's slow ass speed is a major hinderance and. although the LN can increase this speed, it's 6 degrees of separation technology can't be used on a cell phone (yet) causing users of mass adoption to have to flock to trusted services, completely defeating the peer to peer nature of bitcoin. Add to that, the wonderful Bitcoin media community - Nat Brunel, P & Q, Nic Carter, etc - are so busy rubbing each other's backs and promoting a big machine (while offering up a variety of informative interviews) that I can't help but wonder what the real end-game is for their Bitcoin.
I've explored a few other coins, BCH, ZEC, LTC, ETH and I am very happy with one and another is a close second, but I still need more transactions under the belt, while the other two have been written off by me as far as currency usage is concerned, as they are either too clunky or too expensive to use.
So, I guess my question is: should the block war discussion be resurrected before trustless and peer2peer benefits are found to have vanished from the largest in the game?
