Newb question about staking rewards

Could someone please explain to me what the time period is for interest accrual for staking on exchanges like Coinbase? When they say 5%APR is it 5% annually? Quarterly? Monthly? I'm planning to wait for rocketpool and my question applies to that as well. Thanks!
