Jeff Bezos has rejected predictions that AI will destroy jobs in the US economy. He argued that the technology will lift productivity and living standards.

The Amazon founder made the remarks as his physical AI startup Prometheus announced a $12 billion funding round at a $41 billion valuation.

Jeff Bezos Sees AI Cutting Hours, Not Jobs, in US Economy

Bezos pushed back on widespread worries about AI wiping out jobs. He told CNBC he holds the opposite view, predicting the technology will create labor scarcity.

He attributed the public’s pessimism to influential voices steering people toward gloom, and said those experts have it wrong. Bezos went further, suggesting the prosperity could reshape household economics.

“A lot of people who, for example, today have two-earner households, perhaps one of those earners will choose not to be in the job market, so they’ll become a one-earner household. Maybe some people who are working overtime will stop working overtime, because they don’t want to work overtime,” he said.

Public sentiment tells a different story. A recent Pew Research Center survey found that half of US adults feel more concerned than excited about AI in daily life. BeInCrypto has previously reported on mounting layoffs linked to AI.

Prometheus Valuation Surges to $41 Billion

Meanwhile, Bezos’ venture Prometheus has marked a new milestone. The venture raised $12 billion in its Series B raise.

The round values the startup at $41 billion, 4 times its launch figure. JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, BlackRock, DST Global, and Arch Venture Partners joined, according to Axios. Bezos invested as well.

Prometheus launched in November with $6.2 billion in backing. Bezos serves as co-CEO alongside Vik Bajaj, who previously co-founded Verily, a subsidiary of Alphabet.

The company employs roughly 150 people and builds AI tools for engineering and manufacturing physical products.
