Tether Bets on Lightweight AI to Reach Millions in Emerging Markets

Tether plans to develop lightweight artificial-intelligence tools for smartphone users in emerging markets, Chief Executive Officer Paolo Ardoino told Fortune.

Rather than compete with companies building advanced AI models, the world’s largest stablecoin issuer will focus on simpler applications for everyday use.

Tether Targets Mobile AI Access

Ardoino said Tether is developing AI tools for health, finance and sports that could run directly on smartphones. The approach could give users access to basic AI services without requiring advanced hardware.

Tether says it has more than 650 million users worldwide, with a strong presence in emerging markets such as Africa and South America. The company has also invested in decentralized communications, agriculture and solar-powered infrastructure as it expands beyond stablecoins.
