Oasys and Edia Team Up to Bring Retro Games IP to Web3

Oasys, a gaming blockchain, and Edia Corporation, a holder of 139 retro game intellectual property (IP), have formed an exclusive collaboration. By taking on the role of exclusive distributor for all 139 of Edia’s retro game IP titles in the Web3 and international markets, Oasys will bring in a new user base to Web3 gaming.

The goal of the collaboration with Edia is to use retro game IP—including Oasys infrastructure—to build new games on blockchain, with the goal of onboarding more mainstream gamers to web3. Oasys will be able explore all 139 of Edia’s retro game IPs in order to potentially recreate them for web3.

Along with managing marketing and PR initiatives, Edia will work with Oasys to capitalize on its blockchain technology and retro gaming IPs. This will increase awareness of the possibilities that web3 offers for fusing blockchain technology with classic characters and games.

A whole new generation of gamers will have access to several retro games and classic characters from the 1980s and 1990s thanks to Oasys and Edia’s collaboration. Popular games like Gaiares, a 1990 release that has a horizontal scrolling shooter, are under Edia’s IP. Gaiares, a game that was first released on Genesis as a cartridge, may be recreated as a a blockchain game.

IPs for many iconic 1980s video games that were released in North America, Europe, and Japan are also owned by Edia. These classic combat and fantasy games, which at first attracted a cult following, will be re-released in association with Oasys. To appeal to web3 players, they will enhance the gaming experience and make it more engaging while maintaining its original charm and gameplay.

Leading the Way in Web3 Gaming

One of Japan’s biggest crypto events, IVS Crypto 2024 in Kyoto was the perfect successor to its 2023 edition. The conference’s topic this year was “Cross the Boundaries,” with an emphasis on Web3 and blockchain technologies in relation to AI, gaming, and entertainment. With blockchain gaming being a subject of interest, over 12,000 participants and 300 side events were held in Kyoto, the historical city of Japan, to seek methods to break down the “intangible barrier” between Web3 and real life.

Ryo Manzoku, Director of Technology at Oasys, and Ryo Matsubara, Representative Director, took part in panel discussions about the relationship between the increasing demand for Web3 and the weakening Japanese yen and decreasing Japanese economy. In addition, they spoke about the promising future of blockchain gaming in Asia and how Oasys encourages game development and widespread adoption.

With multiple blockchain games scheduled for release in 2024, Oasys is leading the way in the blockchain business for Web3 gaming in Asia. The company also plans to keep pushing Web3 technology as a means of encouraging innovation and creativity in the gaming sector.
