Hedera is announcing the upcoming deprecation of the Alpha State Proof (ASP) feature on the Hedera network. Alpha State Proofs were introduced as an experimental mechanism for developers to retrieve a cryptographically verifiable proof of a specific transaction on Hedera. In essence, an ASP provides mathematical proof that a given transaction indeed took place on Hedera and what its outcome was, independent of any single node’s honesty.

This capability was accessible via the Hedera Mirror Node (for example, through the REST API endpoint GET /transactions/{transactionId}/stateproof on a mirror node), allowing applications to verify transaction data with cryptographic assurance rather than trust alone.

As the network has evolved, the ASP feature is now due for retirement. Below, we outline the timeline for this deprecation and what steps developers should take if they are currently using state proofs.

Deprecation Timeline

  • Tuesday, December 2nd, 2025: Initial Brownout
Duration: 1 hour — Start: 10:00 AM CST
→ Details: The Alpha State Proof service will be temporarily disabled for a short window. This brief brownout is a test run to surface any remaining dependencies on ASP in the ecosystem.
  • Tuesday, January 6th, 2026: Second Brownout
Duration: 12 hours — Start: 10:00 AM CST
Details: A longer brownout of the ASP functionality. Users should anticipate significant temporary disruption during this window. Any applications still relying on state proofs will likely experience errors or unavailability when attempting to fetch state proof data during this period.
  • Tuesday, Februrary 10th, 2026: Final Deprecation
Permanent shutdown of the Alpha State Proof (ASP) service. After this date, state proof data will no longer be generated or available from Hedera Mirror Nodes. Any calls to the state proof endpoints will stop working.

Impact on Developers and Next Steps

Who is affected? Any developer or project that has been utilizing the ASP functionality is affected. This means that any applications using the mirror node for state proofs or any SDK/library features that produce state proofs will stop working.

What should you do? We strongly recommend that developers remove or refactor any usage of Alpha State Proofs in their applications before the final deprecation date. Use the brownout events to test your systems: features depending on ASP will not work, revealing any hidden dependencies. By February 10th, 2026, your application should no longer expect state proof data to be available. We appreciate the community members who experimented with ASP and provided feedback during its alpha phase.

Conclusion

Please mark the above dates on your calendar and prepare accordingly if you utilize ASP. The Alpha State Proof feature will be permanently unavailable after February 10th, 2026.

If you have any questions or need guidance during this transition, please reach out on Hedera’s Discord or other official community channels.
