Video sharing app Chingari has teamed up with the KuCoin cryptocurrency exchange to launch the Chingari Star Contest with a prize pool worth 20 million INR (around $266,000 at the time of writing). The prizes will be paid out in the form of GARI, the token recently launched by the Chingari app.
Chingari is focused on the Indian market, where it’s rapidly gaining traction in the social app category. The project says that the Chingari Star Contest is meant to identify emerging stars from all corners of India, and give them a chance to showcase their talents to a wider audience. For the Chingari app, the contest also represents an opportunity to further grow its user base and encourage creators to make fresh and engaging content.
The GARI token is designed to provide additional incentives to content providers on Chingari and drive the platform’s growth while rewarding creators. Tokens can be used to tip creators and reward them for producing quality content, buying merchandise and NFTs issued by creators, and also participating in decisions related to the platform itself. GARI tokens can be bought on the open market, or earned by engaging with the platform, Play-to-Earn games, and other means. Since Chingari is targeting a large mainstream audience, the GARI token is deployed on the highly scalable Solana blockchain.
The grand prize for the contest’s winner is 10 million INR worth of GARI, while the rest of the prizepool will be distributed to other highly-ranked participants. The Chingari Star Contest is running between February 15 and March 15. Users can become eligible for the contest by signing up to Chingari, creating at least five videos, and applying to become a Chingari Star.
Each Chingari user will have 5 votes per day to vote for their favorite Chingari Star Contest participants. After the contest winners are announced in March, they will be invited to Mumbai for a celebration event.
