After suspending its live-streaming feature indefinitely in November 2024, Solana-based memecoin generator Pump.fun announced today that the platform is open again. According to the project’s co-founder, Alon Cohen, live-streaming has been rolled out on the platform only to users who obey stated guidelines.

Pump.fun Features Live-streaming Moderation Rules

In an X post, Cohen mentioned that the live-streaming feature is available for “5% of users with industry standard moderation systems in place and transparent guidelines.” Attached to his post was a document titled Livestream Moderation Policy. It contained rules intended to guide the community and encourage meaningful user engagement free of illegal and negative interactions.

The rules indicated that stream contents portraying violence, nudity without context, child sexual abuse, privacy and copyright violations, amongst others, are subject to immediate termination. Erring user accounts will also be suspended from accessing the live stream functionality or the memecoin launch platform. These guidelines are not exhaustive, as it was stated that the moderation policy might see future updates based on feedback from the community, policy experts, and other stakeholders.

Notably, there is a provision for users to appeal when they feel that their content was mistakenly or unduly removed. Using the link on the platform’s homepage, they can contact “pump support”. However, Pump.fun retains its right to determine the fate of the appeal.

Live-streaming Returns After Temporary Deactivation

Before today, the memecoin launchpad saw the last of live streams on November 25, 2024, when the feature was disabled on the platform following many cases of violent acts making the rounds on social media. On one occasion, a token launcher went on the live stream to threaten buyers that if their tokens fail to reach a certain level by market capitalization, they would take their life. Another memecoin creator also used the platform’s functionality to announce that they would kill a young child if their token’s price did not increase as much as they wanted.

These disturbing live streams were on the rise then, causing the platform to face criticism from the cryptocurrency community. In response, Pump.fun disabled live streams altogether, stating in a blog post that the feature would be paused indefinitely.
