I am a hodler and this sub is very pro DCA and hodling. It is important to remember that almost all cryptos can be considered startups (ETH and BTC are two exceptions)
Below are the top 25 coins exactly 5 years ago and their current rank next to them
- Bitcoin: 1
- Ethereum: 2
- XRP: 6
- Litecoin: 15
- Monero: 29
- Ethereum Classic: 21
- Steem: 184
- Dash: 54
- NEM: 66
- MaidSafeCoin: 190
- DigixDAO: 524
- Factom: 796
- Lisk: 125
- Dogecoin: 7
- Waves: 49
- Nxt: 783
- Stellar: 22
- Emercoin: 1324
- Counterparty: 3021
- BitShares: 283
- Bytecoin: 450
- Peerplays: ----
- HyperSpace: ----
- BitCrystals: -----
- Storjcoin: ----
- to 50. Tether is the only coin in the top 100 today
Take aways
- Literally DOGE and USDT are the only coins in the top 50 five years ago to be ranked higher than they were 5 years ago
- Only 24% of the top 50 coins are in the current top 100
- 16% of the top 25 coins are no longer being traded today
- Hodling is a good strategy, but it is prudent to reevaluate your coins at times since history has shown up that even projects with great potential do not always age well
