Hyperliquid Breakout Attempt Meets Whale Selling What's Next?

Hyperliquid is at a pivotal spot on the hourly chart right now, and this Hyperliquid price prediction walks through exactly what needs to happen for HYPE to confirm a genuine trend shift.

At the same time, on-chain data is showing one of the platform's own high-profile traders scaling back a position that has been sitting entirely on the long side.

Whenever a technical breakout attempt lines up with a notable whale adjusting exposure, it is worth paying close attention, so here is the full breakdown of where HYPE could be headed.

HYPE Price Today: Live Data and 24-Hour Change

Hyperliquid is trading around 79.798 dollars at the time of writing, up about 0.29% on the hourly candle after opening near 79.570 and touching a high of 80.149.

A separate CoinGlass snapshot puts HYPE closer to 79.695 dollars, up roughly 0.76% over the past 24 hours, confirming the coin has been holding a mild upward drift rather than sliding lower.

The scale behind Hyperliquid remains significant for a relatively young token. Market capitalization currently sits near 20.12 billion dollars, with open interest at an elevated 2.95 billion dollars, showing just how much leveraged positioning is wrapped around this asset.

Futures volume over the last 24 hours came in at a hefty 2.21 billion dollars, while spot volume added another 120.02 million dollars.

Circulating supply stands at 251.73 million HYPE, a relatively small portion of the 951.76 million total and max supply, meaning a large share of HYPE's eventual float is still to enter circulation.

Hyperliquid News Today: A Major Whale Trims His HYPE Long

The most notable piece of Hyperliquid news today comes from the on-chain analytics account Onchain Lens, which flagged that trader Machi is actively closing down his HYPE long position. Hyperliquid news today

According to the post, Machi has reduced his exposure and now holds 86,000 HYPE, worth around 6.84 million dollars, at 10x leverage.

That HYPE position sits inside a much larger perpetual book, with his total exposure across positions standing at roughly 150.85 million dollars, all of it currently on the long side, including a 39,800 ETH position worth close to 99.91 million dollars and a 569 BTC position worth about 44.10 million dollars.

Seeing a large, entirely long-oriented trader trim specifically the HYPE portion of his book while keeping his BTC and ETH exposure intact is worth noting for anyone doing Hyperliquid trend analysis, since it can be read either as simple risk management or as a signal that conviction on HYPE specifically has softened relative to the majors.

It does not automatically mean a bearish outcome, but it is the kind of on-chain flow that tends to get discussed heavily whenever a breakout attempt is already in play.

Quick Take

  • CMP: 79.798

  • Hourly trigger level: break and close above 80.423

  • Hourly failure level: break and close below 76.554

  • Data as of: September 14, 2026, around 11:57 UTC+5:30

  • Risk note: this breakout attempt is still fresh, and a large long holder trimming his HYPE exposure right now adds a layer of uncertainty to how sustainable a push higher would be

HYPE Technical Forecast: A Fresh Breakout Attempt in Progress

On the HYPE USDT perpetual chart on the 1-hour timeframe on Binance, the price has recently made an attempt to break out of a descending trendline that had been guiding the recent slide lower. Hyperliquid technical forecast

This is still an attempt rather than a confirmed move, since price has only just pushed up toward the trendline and the immediate resistance sitting above it, without yet delivering a decisive close through the zone.

The hourly oscillator is currently reading in the high 50s, comfortably above the midpoint, with a bullish tag visible on a recent higher low, which does lend some support to the idea that momentum has been quietly building beneath the surface even as price chopped sideways over the past several sessions.

That combination of a trendline test alongside improving momentum is exactly the setup that shows up in a proper Hyperliquid technical analysis when a short-term trend change might be forming.

If $HYPE breaks and closes above 80.423, that would confirm the breakout and open the door to a run at 83.837 first, followed by 87.032 and then 89.720 as the next resistance zones in sequence.

Beyond all of those, the 100 dollar level stands out as the most significant resistance on the chart, not because of any specific technical structure but simply because it is a major psychological round number, the kind of level that tends to attract both profit-taking and fresh-selling interest purely on its own.

On the downside, if the price breaks and closes below 76.554, this breakout attempt would be considered a failure, and the next support to watch would sit at 74.885, a level from which $HYPE could look to stabilize before deciding on its next move.

Bull, Base, and Bear Scenarios for Hyperliquid

In the bullish case, $HYPE closes cleanly above 80.423, confirming the trendline breakout, and buyers push through 83.837 toward 87.032 and 89.720 in fairly quick succession.

If that momentum holds, the psychological 100 dollar mark becomes the ultimate test, though reaching it would likely require sustained buying interest rather than a single sharp move.

The base case sees $HYPE oscillating between the 76.554 support and the 80.423 trigger level while the market digests both the breakout attempt and the news around Machi trimming his long, waiting for a clean directional signal before committing further.

The bearish case unfolds if 76.554 breaks and closes below, invalidating the breakout attempt entirely.

In that scenario, 74.885 becomes the next support in focus, and given the size of the pullback that would represent, it is a level where dip buyers have a reasonable chance of stepping back in.

Risks to This HYPE Price Outlook

This setup is still forming, and an hourly breakout attempt can fail just as quickly as it develops, so waiting for a confirmed close rather than reacting to a single wick matters here.

A large trader like Machi reducing his HYPE long, even while keeping his ETH and BTC longs intact, adds a layer of uncertainty around near-term demand for $HYPE specifically.

Broader market conditions across majors like BTC and ETH can also heavily influence how altcoins such as $HYPE trade, regardless of how a coin-specific chart pattern is shaping up.

Key Terms Glossary

Descending trendline: A downward-sloping line connecting a series of lower highs, often acting as resistance until it is decisively broken.

Breakout attempt: A move where price pushes toward or slightly beyond a key resistance level without yet confirming a sustained close above it.

Open interest: The total number of outstanding derivative contracts that remain open and unsettled at a given time.

Psychological level: A round number price point, such as 100, that tends to influence trader behavior simply due to its significance rather than pure technical structure.

Perp exposure: The total notional value of a trader's open perpetual futures positions across all assets held.
