At Token2049 in Dubai, we sat down with the creators of Engines of Fury, a gritty, top-down extraction shooter that blends fast-paced gameplay with the power of Web3 technology.
Saulius Aleksa, Co-founder and CEO, and Laurynas Vainius, Game Director, joined us to discuss their creative vision, the evolution of the game, its presence on the Epic Games Store, and their vision for the future of blockchain gaming.
Welcome to both of you as we host this interview on the Token2049 VIP Balcony overlooking all the companies and brands exhibiting at Token2049 this year in Dubai.
Great to have you here and looking forward to delving deeper into all that is Engines of Fury.
There is a lot to talk about, so letās jump straight inā¦
Invezz: Youāre building a gritty, top-down extraction shooter with Web3 elementsāwhat inspired the vision behind Engines of Fury, and how did that evolve into something ready for Epic Games?
Laurynas: The vision came from our deep passion for games. From the beginning, we wanted to build something weād genuinely enjoy ourselves. The idea evolved a lotāpeople whoāve followed our progress probably noticed how much the game changed over time.
We watched how players interacted with early builds, we studied analytics, we saw what worked and what didnāt. Our design philosophy is player-first. We donāt want to force our ideasāwe want to shape the game around what feels fun and meaningful.
Saulius: Exactly. Passion was the starting point, but adaptability was the key. You canāt rigidly stick to your original ideas if theyāre not delivering for players.
The story remained intact, but the mechanics evolved through community input. Thatās what made the game strong enough to stand alongside major titles on Epic.
Invezz: Launching on the Epic Games Store is a major milestone. What does that say about how mainstream platforms are beginning to embrace Web3 titles like Engines of Fury?
Saulius: We signed with Epic almost two years ago, back when blockchain games faced real resistance. One of our advisors helped us get through to their leadership. It was a big deal.
These days, Epic is more open, but itās still a big achievement to get listed. That said, being on Epic isnāt the endgame.
You need players. You need engagement. You need to show that your game is working, both in terms of gameplay and monetisation.
Invezz: Thereās a lot of excitement around ownership and earning in Web3 gamesābut for Engines of Fury, how do you ensure the gameplay comes first and crypto elements enhance rather than distract?
Laurynas: For us, itās all about fairness. When players start the game, itāll feel like any high-quality free-to-play titleāWarframe, Tarkov, you name it. The blockchain layer is there, but itās invisible unless you want to engage with it.
What makes it different is the freedom. Players can trade items, monetize assets, or just enjoy the game without touching Web3 at all.
Saulius: Weāve worked hard to remove friction. Thatās why we partnered with Immutable. Their tech allows us to onboard players without them even realizing theyāre in a blockchain game.
If they choose to participate in the economy later, greatābut itās never forced. Itās optional, seamless, and adds value rather than complexity.
Invezz: At Token2049, weāre seeing a shift in narrativeāfrom speculation to utility. How is Engines of Fury contributing to that shift through its PvP and PvE gameplay loops?
Saulius: Utility is at the core of everything weāre doing. Our economy has been the hardest part to designāand also the most important. Weāre nearing launch, and unlike a new feature you can revise later, an economy needs to work from day one.
Weāve learned a lot from other Web3 projectsātheir successes and mistakesāand weāve had great support from Immutable, Web3 Game Alliance, and our investors. Weāre now preparing a major campaign that will introduce our economic systems to players.
Laurynas: This game took years to build. It has to last, and that means creating real value for playersānot just short-term hype. Thatās why weāre investing so heavily in the utility side now, rather than later.
The evolution of blockchain and gaming
Invezz: Engines of Fury blends heavy action with blockchain techāwhat does that look like in practice for a player whoās used to traditional shooters but curious about Web3?
Laurynas: From a gameplay perspective, it feels just like any traditional top-down shooter. You jump in, and the action takes center stage. But where weāre different is what happens after the gameplay. Items have real value.
You can sell them, trade them, even rent them. Iāve got old Riot Points locked in an inactive League of Legends accountāIād love to pass those on, but I canāt. Weāre solving that.
Saulius: Thatās the future weāre building. We donāt want players to even think about wallets or tokens until theyāre ready.
If you just want to enjoy the game, thatās fine. But if you stick around and engage with our systems, weāve created an economy that respects your time and effort.
Invezz: How do you see your community evolvingāare you building for competitive esports, modders, lore fans, or a mix of all the above?
Laurynas: Definitely a mix. The PvP side brings in competitive players, but the lore is a huge part of the experience too. Weāre creating a world that will grow with community input and narrative events.
Think of it like a hybrid between deep lore games and live-service shooters. Weāve seen titles like Marathon embracing a similar futureāand weāre excited to be part of that movement.
Invezz: And finally, with Token2049 being such a key gathering for Web3 innovation, what are you hoping attendees take away from Engines of Furyās presence here?
Saulius: We want people to know that weāre not just pitching ideasāweāre building and shipping real features.
Weāve shown up at events across the globeāSingapore, Germany, Lithuania, Bangkokāand weāre here now in Dubai showcasing in three different venues.
Every few months, weāre improving the game based on feedback. This year, weāre focused on our economy, and later this year, weāre planning a major launch that we think will set a new benchmark for Web3 games.
Closing thoughts
Engines of Fury is more than just a gameāitās a living ecosystem built on feedback, passion, and a commitment to redefining whatās possible in the gaming space.
With a firm foothold in both traditional gaming and the evolving Web3 space, Saulius and Laurynas are setting a new standard for what a blockchain-powered game can be.
As they gear up for their upcoming launch and continue expanding their global footprint, Engines of Fury is proving itself not just as a contender, but as a leader in next-gen gaming.
