  • Base restored block production following its second chain halt Friday.
  • Developers confirmed Beryl hardfork deployed successfully despite recurring outages overall.
  • Node operators restarted Mainnet nodes restoring synchronization safely networkwide operations.

Coinbase-incubated blockchain Base resumed normal block production on Friday after another temporary chain halt interrupted network operations. According to the network’s official status page, the incident marked the second disruption affecting the blockchain within two consecutive days.

The issue surfaced at 15:33 UTC when the Base team announced it was investigating an unexpected problem on the mainnet. Developers identified the cause shortly afterward and confirmed at 16:11 UTC that block production had resumed. They also instructed node operators to restart their Base Mainnet nodes to restore synchronization across the network.

Friday’s disruption mirrored an earlier incident on Thursday, when block production stopped after an invalid block prevented the sequencer from processing transactions beyond block 47806542. Although the interruption temporarily affected withdrawals, the team emphasized that user funds remained safe throughout the event. Developers restored network operations roughly two hours later and advised node operators to restart their systems before reconnecting to the blockchain.

Friday outage mirrors Thursday’s disruption

According to alerts published on Base’s status page, Friday’s interruption displayed symptoms similar to Thursday’s chain halt. One update specifically noted that Base Mainnet was experiencing another halt with comparable characteristics, indicating that engineers encountered a recurring operational issue.

The latest disruption came less than a day after Base completed one of its most significant protocol upgrades. Consequently, the timing drew attention across the blockchain community as developers continued monitoring network stability.

Thursday’s earlier interruption occurred around the scheduled deployment of the Beryl hardfork, which was initially planned for 18:00 UTC. The upgrade introduced several protocol enhancements designed to strengthen the network’s functionality and transaction processing.

Among the most notable additions, Beryl introduced the B20 token standard alongside multiple finality upgrades. Despite the earlier disruption, developers successfully completed the hardfork deployment at approximately 20:00 UTC on Thursday.

However, Base has not linked either chain halt directly to the Beryl upgrade. Instead, the development team focused on restoring normal operations and providing recovery guidance for node operators.

Engineering team continues monitoring the network

Node operators once again needed to restart their Base Mainnet nodes before synchronization resumed successfully across the blockchain. Consequently, network activity returned to normal within a relatively short period.

Base has not released a detailed technical explanation for either outage. Nevertheless, the engineering team continues monitoring network performance while investigating the underlying cause of both incidents.

In conclusion, Base successfully restored block production following its second chain halt in two days. Although both outages briefly interrupted network operations, developers confirmed that user funds remained secure while the investigation continues.
