do we buy eth2 or ethereum still? coinbase has ethereum but says eth2 is coming, coinmarketcap doesn't have ethereum 2 at all, etc.

very confused, wanting to purchase a little, but i read you don't need to do anything with eth before the merge, that it duplicates or copies over to the new eth? but i see eth 2 in some places & not others
