A cryptocurrency whale has exchanged nearly $87 million in Bitcoin for Ethereum and staked the position. According to Lookonchain, the investor sold 1,107 Bitcoin worth $86.76 million through Hyperliquid across five days, then purchased 34,422 Ethereum for roughly $86.5 million before staking the entire position.
This transaction differs from a routine portfolio swap because the whale did not leave Ethereum available for immediate trading. However, the decision does not confirm an investment period or prove that other large holders are following. Whales frequently rebalance portfolios because of market conditions, technical signals, liquidity requirements, or risk management strategies.
Bitcoin traded near $81,500 while testing resistance between $81,500 and $82,000 on the chart. BTC previously struggled around this region during May, making a decisive breakout important for extending the recovery.

Ethereum Momentum Supports Whale’s Major Allocation
Bitcoin remains above the major moving averages shown on the chart, supporting its broader technical structure. Moreover, its shorter moving averages have turned upward as buyers regained control from lower price levels. A confirmed move beyond $82,000 and $83,000 could remove the main barrier facing BTC. Conversely, another rejection could return attention toward support between $79,000 and $80,000.
Ethereum has displayed stronger momentum since breaking above its consolidation range between $2,400 and $2,550. ETH traded near $2,649 and reached $2,700 intraday while remaining above its major moving averages. Consequently, Ethereum now faces resistance between $2,700 and $2,750. Its relative strength index remains elevated without matching the extreme conditions recorded during previous rallies.
Additionally, market data showed ETH gaining about 3%, while BTC advanced approximately 1% during the comparable session. That performance gap adds context to the whale’s decision, although one transaction cannot establish a broader capital rotation.
Other substantial wallets must make comparable moves before analysts can identify a sustained market preference for Ethereum over Bitcoin. Ultimately, the whale’s staking decision signals stronger commitment than an ordinary trade, while Ethereum’s momentum supports interest in the allocation.
