Happy 7th birthday, Pirate Chain! ARRR!!!
Pirate Chain was born on 29 August, 2018 in a Discord conversation as a chain concept with required encrypted, shielded transactions using zk-SNARK proofs with no optional transparent end points. We have come a long way in the past seven years. From Sprout to Sapling and now onwards to Orchard, Pirate Chain is still forging ahead to bring users the very best in privacy technology for peer-to-peer transactions.
August has been a busy month for Pirate Chain. Pirates went to Las Vegas with Null:404 and came back to host other events such as an X space on Meile's dVPN service. Also in this month's newsletter is a description of how Pirate Chain's Delayed Proof of Work (dPow) helps to prevent against 51% attacks against the network.

Live from Vegas: Null404.org and other events
Null:404 and Pirate Chain party at DEFCON
We broadcasted from Las Vegas alongside Null404.org’s “Hacker–Among Us” challenge and hosted a Pirate Chain party on Saturday of DEFCON week. Expect more privacy-first outreach at security events where although crypto isn’t the focus, privacy still matters.
Pirate Chain x Meile dVPN X space
We hosted an X Space on 24 August with FreQnik of Meile dVPN. Meile is a decentralized VPN solution built on top of the Sentinel Blockchain. Utilizing blockchain technology alongside community hosted decentralized nodes creates a private and censorship resistant network for everyone. Exchange and wallet notes
$ARRR is now live on WenSwap! You can swap from any chain to Pirate Chain inside Telegram with no IP leakage. Try regular, privacy, or seed mode. (See WenSwap’s announcement on X for details.)
ARRR is now also listed on CoinoSwap, a cryptocurrency swap exchange aggregator.
With chatter about TradeOgre downtime, alternatives include the Komodo Wallet (latest release on GitHub) and non-KYC options listed on the Exchanges page on the Pirate Chain website (e.g., nonkyc.io, MEXC, SafeTrade).
Edge App is also a great option as a self-custody multi-coin wallet. The direct link for Edge App and Pirate Chain (https://dl.edge.app/piratechain) sets ARRR as a default wallet.
Progress on community crowdfunding
Firstly, a big thank you to all donors! We’re at over 20,000 ARRR (~$3k) for Pirate + BTCPay Server development and over 7,000 ARRR (~$1k) for the Subversive Spectrum sponsorship with Sal the Agorist. If funds remain, we’ll seed general-purpose pools (dev, business/marketing, special projects) and roll out a community upvoting system for proposals. For more details, visit our crowdfunding page.
Delayed Proof of Work (Pirate Chain + Komodo + Litecoin)
Delayed Proof of Work (dPow) is a cross-chain feature that increases Pirate Chain’s resistance to 51% attacks. Roughly every 20 minutes, a snapshot of the Pirate Chain blockchain is permanently written/notarized onto both the Komodo and Litecoin blockchains. An attacker would have to simultaneously overpower and rewrite all three networks of Pirate Chain, Komodo, and Litecoin. By anchoring Pirate Chain’s history across multiple blockchains, the Pirate Chain ledger becomes more immutable than on one chain alone.
