Solana ETF Shares Could Soon Go On-Chain — Bitwise Is Exploring A Major Shift

Wall Street keeps finding new ways to blend traditional finance with blockchain rails, and Bitwise just added another example.

The asset manager wants to let investors hold ETF shares as actual on-chain tokens.

The Partnership Behind The Plan

Bitwise Asset Management announced a partnership with fintech firm Superstate on August 14, 2026, to build the infrastructure needed to tokenize shares of certain Bitwise funds.

The Bitwise Solana Staking ETF, trading as BSOL on NYSE Arca, is expected to be first in line, though the company was careful to note there’s no guarantee the tokenized version actually launches.

How Tokenized Shares Would Work

Investors would keep buying the same shares, with the same rights, through the same channels as today.

The only thing that changes is how ownership gets recorded. Shareholders could choose traditional book-entry form through the Depository Trust Company, or opt for a tokenized record kept on Superstate’s transfer-agent infrastructure.

Either way, the shares carry identical economic and voting rights, according to the official filing

Tokenized shares won’t trade freely outside that approved recordkeeping system either, so this isn’t the same as turning ETF shares into a freely swappable crypto token.

A Regulatory Environment That’s Already Leaning This Way

This move doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Techgaged reported back in May that regulators under SEC Chair Paul Atkins have been signaling growing support for tokenization across on-chain trading and settlement systems.

That shift in tone gives asset managers more confidence to build products like this one, rather than waiting for rules to catch up after the fact.

BSOL’s Track Record Adds Some Context

BSOL currently trades near $10.42, close to its net asset value of $10.40, and held roughly 8.19 million SOL as of August 12, 2026, worth about $622.8 million in net assets.

That said, the fund has posted cumulative losses near 60% since its October 2025 inception, a reminder that tokenizing the wrapper does nothing to change the volatility risk sitting inside it.

Techgaged has tracked that volatility closely too, including a stretch in February when Solana’s social dominance collapsed even as network activity kept climbing underneath the bearish sentiment.

The Chart Tells Its Own Quiet Story

As of 13:12 UTC on August 15, 2026, SOL/USD trades at $75.39 on the weekly chart, up a modest 0.07%.

Price sits well below the resistance zone near $91 to $120 and remains a long way from its all-time high near $295.

The weekly MACD histogram has just flipped positive after months in negative territory, a shift that has preceded past recoveries on this chart, though the move is still small and unconfirmed.

So does tokenized ETF plumbing end up as the bridge that finally pulls more traditional capital onto blockchain rails, or does the price chart need to do its own convincing first?
