Why do we need "Wrapped BCH" on SmartBCH? I understand why ETH needs wETH but wBCH does not seem to serve the same purpose.

I've been reading about wrapped ETH and that makes sense (basically ETH is not an ERC20 token itself but wETH is) but BCH on SmartBCH is already a token no different than wBCH, right?
Or is "Smart BCH" the token, "SBCH" (or whatever we are calling it) is like ETH?
