Kraken Rolls Out xStocks Trading with 24/5 Access for Global Users

Kraken now hosts 60 tokenized US equities, which are now accessible to non-US users through the xStocks. The rollout is the first supported on the Solana blockchain to offer tokenized shares that are backed 1:1 with real-world assets. Among the popular stocks in these assets are Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, and Tesla.

As stated in the press release, xStocks are issued by Backed Assets Limited, not by Kraken. Kraken only offers the marketplace for these assets. The xStocks launch will begin with 60 assets, 55 individual stocks, and 5 ETFs. However, additional listings will later be available.

Self-custody is completely permitted. Traders have the option of withdrawing tokenized stocks to individual wallets. As SPL tokens on Solana, users can utilize such tokens on a DeFi protocol. Kamino Lend has already backed xStocks as collateral.

Kraken Enables Seamless Global Access and Real-Time Trading

Kraken’s product targets customers worldwide. Regulatory limitations leave out users in the US, UK, EU, Canada, and Australia. Furthermore, within several days, the platform will increase access to 185 countries.

The trading will occur five days a week, 24 hours a day. The platform has a goal of making this a full weekend access soon. Such an arrangement enables traders to trade even when the traditional markets are closed. This model provides access 24 hours a day as compared to traditional brokers. Solana tokenized stocks provide worldwide real-time access to large US equities. Unlike other traditional stock ownership systems, xStocks can also be bought in increments as low as $1. In addition, payments can be made in crypto, stablecoin, or fiat.

Limitations and Composability in DeFi

In contrast to traditional shares, xStocks do not provide voting rights and dividend payments. This implies that token owners do not become shareholders in the decision-making process. It also does not include dividends; the xStocks may be more appropriate with growth stocks. Most listed stocks are fast-growth, which reinvests the profits instead of paying dividends. Consequently, this aligns well with the DeFi use case for tokenized equities.

xStocks remain composable, transferable, and programmable. Traders may configure strategies to be automated by following bots or trade under trading logic informed by AI. These tokens become compatible with the Solana Web3 ecosystem. Kraken allows the application of tokenized equities to lending, swapping, or staking, which is not possible in traditional markets.

Future of Tokenized Equities and Market Trends

By March 2025, the total value of tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) stood at $50 billion. Predictions state that, by 2030, this will increase to $2 trillion. This broader trend of RWA includes Kraken’s move. However, tokenized stocks remain behind tokenized bonds and T-bills. However, services such as xStocks can alter this path. The wide listing of Kraken is among the largest in the modern market.

The absence of standards when it comes to the tokenization of shares continues to be a challenge. xStocks is one of the most structured and supported efforts going on in the market right now. The US stock markets in the tech sector still have a high demand globally. International investors are on the lookout for easier access with the increasing size of the AI, fintech and tech sectors. That route becomes easier to embark on with tokenization, doing away with the need for centralized brokers.
