In just two days, the Horizen ecosystem will undergo some transformations as the anticipated Horizen DAO Special Council election is scheduled to start on February 15, 2025, following an earlier announcement by the network.

The outcome of the forthcoming election will profoundly impact Horizen’s future trajectory, including its development, growth, and overall direction. As the community prepares to vote for the candidates of their choice, the stakes are high, and the community eagerly awaits the result.

Horizen Network at a Glance

Horizen is a decentralized, open-source blockchain platform where users can create scalable, secure, and private decentralized applications (dApps). The network utilizes a unique consensus algorithm called Zendoo, which aims to provide high-speed transactions and scalability.

Horizen’s mainnet is designed to support various use cases, including decentralized finance (DeFi), gaming, and social media.

Like every other DAO (decentralized autonomous organization), the platform has a decentralized governance model, which allows holders of its native cryptocurrency, ZEN, to participate in decision-making processes and shape the network’s future.

With the Horizen DAO Special Council election in view, consider the key details you need to know about the event.

Understanding the Special Council’s Role

The Special Council consists of 7 members. The team’s role is to safeguard the Horizen ecosystem, providing critical oversight and ensuring the integrity of the DAO, $ZEN token, and Foundation. As custodians of the organization, the body’s primary focus is to maintain a secure environment.

In times of crisis, the Special Council can hold emergency meetings to investigate possible security threats. Furthermore, the body checks major proposals, such as ZenIPs, intending to provide vital review and feedback before the proposals go to a final vote by Tokenholders.

The Tokenholders can influence the Foundation’s governing documents. If any proposed changes could negatively impact the rights or powers of Tokenholders, the members must provide their consent before the changes can be made.

They also have the power to propose and vote on important decisions that affect the Horizen ecosystem, including changing the Special Council, creating new committees, and removing individuals from key roles within the Foundation.

Three of the seven seats on the Special Council are currently open for election. Candidates include Vladan Nikolic (Trololino), Sean Sullivan (SKyTL), Robin Giskemo, Manon Boudoux, Johncarlo (Psyrax), Paul Mihalache (PVM), Emmanuel Umoh (Nhuel), Domenico (Sodiomayor), and Ben Charbit.

Voting Procedure

The Horizen Foundation election will last seven days, from February 15th to February 22nd. During this period, community members can cast their votes for up to three nominees through the Horizen Foundation Snapshot.

The voting influence of each community member is closely related to the number of $ZEN in their EVM and mainchain wallets, and any $ZEN delegated to forger nodes. To participate in the voting process, voters should go to the Horizen Foundation Snapshot page, join as members, link their wallets, and select a proposal to vote on.

Then, they can read through the proposal, review the voting options, pick their preferred candidate, and sign a message with their wallet to cast their vote. According to the platform, the voting process does not require gas fees.

Horizen (ZEN)’s performance has fluctuated over the past few years, with Binance removing the Monitoring Tag from the token, boosting its value. Recently, however, the token has seen significant growth, especially after the election was announced, with a 13.80% surge in the last 24 hours to $14, according to data on CoinGecko.
