- ADGM recognized Tether Gold as an Accepted Spot Commodity, allowing authorized firms to offer regulated services tied to XAUT across markets.
- Each XAUT token represents one physical gold ounce, while Ethereum and Tron support secure trading and blockchain-based ownership transfers globally.
- The approval expands Tether’s regulated UAE presence, strengthening institutional access to tokenized gold and broader real-world asset adoption across finance.
Tether has strengthened its presence in the United Arab Emirates after Crypto Briefing reported that Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) recognized Tether Gold (XAUT) as an Accepted Spot Commodity. The decision allows authorized firms operating within the financial center to offer regulated services tied to the gold-backed digital asset.
According to Crypto Briefing, the approval reflects ADGM’s growing support for regulated digital assets and tokenized real-world investments. It also expands the range of compliant products available to institutional and professional investors within the financial center.
XAUT gives holders ownership of one fine troy ounce of physical gold for every token issued. Moreover, the bullion backing each token is stored in secure vaults, primarily in Switzerland, giving investors direct exposure to physical gold through blockchain technology.
The token is available on both the Ethereum and Tron blockchains, allowing investors to buy, transfer, and trade tokenized gold while retaining ownership rights linked to London Good Delivery gold bars.

Approval Strengthens Tether’s Position in Regulated Digital Assets
According to Crypto Briefing, Tether worked closely with ADGM to demonstrate its compliance standards and operational transparency before receiving the recognition. That process established a formal regulatory framework for XAUT within the financial center. Additionally, licensed firms operating in ADGM can now integrate Tether Gold into regulated financial products and services. This creates greater certainty for institutions seeking exposure to tokenized commodities under an established regulatory environment.
Tether noted that every XAUT token remains backed on a one-to-one basis by physical gold. Each token represents one troy ounce from a London Good Delivery bar, preserving direct ownership of the underlying asset. Besides strengthening XAUT’s regulatory standing, the approval builds on ADGM’s earlier recognition of USDT. The latest development broadens Tether’s regulated presence in the UAE as the country expands its digital asset ecosystem.
XAUT currently has a market capitalization of nearly $2.5 billion, making it one of the largest tokenized gold products in the market. Growing institutional interest in real-world asset tokenization has also increased demand for blockchain-based investment products backed by traditional assets.
Conclusion
The ADGM recognition gives Tether Gold a regulated framework within one of the Middle East’s leading financial centers while reinforcing the UAE’s support for compliant digital asset products. Tether also stated that it will work with regulators and industry participants across the region to support the development of regulated digital asset markets.
