- Flare Networks plans to extend FAssets technology to Bitcoin through FBTC, expanding decentralized finance utility beyond its XRP ecosystem.
- Confidential computing aims to protect institutional transactions while supporting secure lending, trading, and broader blockchain participation with enhanced privacy safeguards.
- Growing cross-chain activity keeps Flare’s total value locked above $200 million while FIRE strengthens long-term FLR token scarcity mechanisms.
Flare Networks CEO Hugo Philion has revealed plans to expand the network’s FAssets technology to Bitcoin, marking the project’s next major step beyond its growing XRP ecosystem. According to Philion, the initiative will introduce wrapped Bitcoin through the FBTC token while positioning Flare as a programmable layer for one of the world’s largest digital assets.
The strategy builds on Flare’s efforts to unlock decentralized finance opportunities for assets that traditionally operate outside programmable blockchain environments. Philion shared the update while discussing Flare’s long-term development strategy instead of focusing on short-term market performance.
He acknowledged weaker market conditions but emphasized that the company’s roadmap remains centered on expanding infrastructure capable of attracting institutional participation. According to Philion, Flare intends to apply the same framework powering FXRP to Bitcoin, allowing holders to access decentralized finance services without selling their BTC.

Privacy technology supports Flare’s institutional strategy
Flare believes confidential computing will play a central role in attracting institutional capital into decentralized finance. Therefore, the company plans to integrate Flare Confidential Compute, or FCC, into its Bitcoin strategy through the FBTC token. FCC relies on trusted execution environments to protect sensitive transaction data while maintaining blockchain security and verification.
According to Philion, blockchain transparency remains one of the biggest barriers preventing major financial institutions from participating in decentralized finance. Consequently, Flare wants to combine secure on-chain settlement with privacy features that protect commercial trading strategies.
Moreover, Philion stressed that infrastructure deployment will remain the company’s priority, adding that Flare is fully funded despite difficult market conditions and is not promising immediate price gains from the initiative.
XRP roadmap lays the foundation for Bitcoin integration
The Bitcoin expansion follows Flare’s recently announced six-month roadmap for the XRP Ledger ecosystem. According to Philion, the FAssets framework already enables users to convert XRP into FXRP on a one-to-one basis while accessing staking, lending, and liquidity services. Additionally, FXRP issuance has exceeded 150 million tokens, and Flare hopes to attract as much as five billion XRP, representing roughly five percent of the asset’s total supply.
Besides strengthening XRP utility, the company plans to replicate the same model for Bitcoin through FBTC. However, Philion explained that institutional adoption will require extensive bridge audits before significant capital enters the ecosystem.
Furthermore, lending protocols will need deeper liquidity from stablecoins such as USDT and USDC. Even so, cross-chain activity has kept Flare’s total value locked above $200 million while supporting FIRE, the network’s value accrual mechanism that automatically buys back and burns FLR tokens using protocol revenue.
Conclusion
Flare’s latest roadmap extends its decentralized finance ambitions beyond XRP by bringing FAssets technology to Bitcoin through FBTC, with the company prioritizing infrastructure development, institutional readiness, and privacy-focused features as it expands programmable finance across leading blockchain networks.
