Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, has announced that XRP holders will be included in a major upcoming token airdrop linked to the Midnight privacy sidechain.

Wu Blockchain confirmed this development on Twitter, revealing that the initiative, known as the Glacier Drop, will target 37 million blockchain users while excluding venture capitalists and early insiders.

The Glacier Drop will distribute two native tokens from Midnight: NIGHT and DUST. NIGHT will be used as a governance token, whereas DUST will be used for private transactions.

XRP holders and individuals will receive some of this airdrop from seven other blockchain communities, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, Avalanche, BNB Chain, and Basic Attention Token.

According to Wu Blockchain, the airdrop indicates Hoskinson’s work towards a more welcoming and fair model in the crypto space. The distribution will only be for retail users; no allocations will be reserved for insiders. The recipients will be free to exchange, store, or even dispose of the assets at their own will.

Hoskinson announced the Glacier Drop at the Consensus 2025 event in Toronto as part of a larger movement he called “collaborative economics.” The initiative will help diminish friction in the blockchain ecosystem and change tribalism to cooperation.

He said that every major blockchain would be part of the future of Midnight’s development and operations.

XRP Ledger Among Eight Chains Selected for Multi-Network Collaboration

The inclusion of the XRP Ledger in the airdrop marks a notable shift in cross-chain engagement for Cardano-related projects. Midnight will also allow developers to pay transaction fees in the native tokens of their original chains.

That means Ethereum, Solana, and XRP developers can interact with Midnight using their familiar tokens, enhancing accessibility.

Additionally, validators from any of the eight supported chains will be able to participate in maintaining the Midnight network and receive rewards. This cross-chain validator structure breaks down existing divisions and encourages more unified development efforts across the crypto space.

Midnight remains in its testnet phase, with the mainnet launch expected by the end of 2025. The project represents a new approach to privacy, governance, and collaboration across blockchain platforms, setting the stage for broader interoperability.

Conclusion

Through the Glacier Drop, XRP holders will benefit directly from Cardano’s expanding ecosystem. Midnight is positioning itself as a unifying layer for the crypto community, with the NIGHT and DUST token airdrop reaching users across eight major blockchains.
