In a significant development, AMINA Bank, a Swiss-regulated bank, has become the first bank globally to offer custody and trading of Ripple’s USD‑pegged stablecoin, RLUSD.

Founded in April 2018, AMINA Bank brands itself as a pioneer in the crypto banking industry. The bank received the Swiss Banking and Securities Dealer License from the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) in 2019.

First Bank to Support RLUSD

AMINA Bank now allows institutional clients and professional investors to securely hold and trade RLUSD directly from their banking accounts. This transforms stablecoin engagement from a crypto-native activity into a fully compliant banking product.

According to the announcement, AMINA’s decision to support RLUSD was based on the stablecoin’s structure and Ripple’s stated approach to compliance. Myles Harrison, AMINA Bank’s Chief Product Officer, noted the bank is committed to integrating “cutting-edge products” to enable its clients to adopt and navigate the crypto market seamlessly.

“We are proud to be the first bank to support RLUSD and to provide our clients with access to one of the most anticipated digital assets in the market. Ripple’s commitment to transparency and compliance makes them ideal collaborators as we continue our mission to expand institutional-grade digital asset services,” he added.

RLUSD is issued in the United States under independent oversight. It ensures that it is fully backed one-to-one with cash and cash equivalents, such as U.S. Treasury bonds. Each RLUSD token is backed by a real dollar or equivalent asset held in reserve.

RLUSD Gains Regulatory Strength

Moreover, RLUSD has gained considerable regulatory approval. The stablecoin first secured approval from the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS). Last month, the Dubai Financial Services Authority cleared its use within the Dubai International Financial Centre.

The latest development solidifies RLUSD’s status as a trusted stablecoin, offering a blend of stability, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. Additionally, this partnership establishes a regulated European corridor for Ripple’s stablecoin, which is available to AMINA Bank’s client base.
