Most major blockchains aren’t ready for quantum risks, so the same tech protecting your crypto today could end up leaving it exposed tomorrow.
According to data from TechGaged.com, six of the top 10 blockchains are not ready for quantum attacks, with Bitcoin ranking as the most exposed, followed by Hyperliquid and BNB Chain. Here’s how the rest of the market compares.
Bitcoin Is the Most Exposed to Quantum Threats, but Hyperliquid Is the Least Prepared
Quantum risk is rising, and the crypto market is splitting, according to the qLABS Quantum Vulnerability Index (qLVI), which ranked the 10 largest Layer-1 blockchains based on their exposure to quantum risks, including market-value-at-risk, historical data exposure, and preparedness. The index uses a weighted model combining these factors to assess real-world vulnerability.
The results showed a striking gap in the crypto space, dividing blockchains that treat quantum attacks as a real threat from those that still see it as a far-future scenario.
According to the index, four of the 10 blockchains have no quantum roadmap at all, and two others acknowledge the risk without a clear plan, with Bitcoin standing as the most exposed.
Bitcoin tops the ranking with around $1.5 trillion at risk, 17 years of exposed on-chain data, and no clear path to quantum security, making the network that holds the most value also the hardest to upgrade.
Hyperliquid follows, standing out as the only major network with no quantum preparation whatsoever, including a clear roadmap, public acknowledgment, or broader discussion around quantum risk. BNB Chain ranked third on this list, with high exposure driven by its large ecosystem and no clear quantum-readiness plan.
However, most other major blockchains also lack clear readiness. Chains like Dogecoin and Monero lack clear roadmaps, and TRON acknowledges the risk but still lacks actionable plans, placing it in the middle of the ranking.
Cardano Is the Most Quantum-Prepared Blockchain
The qLABS index also found that, despite all major blockchains relying on encryption that could eventually be broken by quantum computers, only four are actively preparing for that risk and working to reduce it.
Cardano ranks as the most quantum-prepared network, backed by years of research and a clearly defined long-term strategy, and Ethereum follows with a clear roadmap and active research. The XRP Ledger also ranks among the leaders, aiming for full quantum readiness by 2028, with Solana more recently introducing a public roadmap outlining research, new wallet adoption, and migration.
This matters because networks that prepare early are far less exposed if quantum threats arrive sooner than expected, whereas others may be forced into rushed and risky upgrades.
Recent breakthroughs support this shift, with expert estimates dropping sharply, meaning the time needed to break today’s encryption is getting much shorter, while companies like Google and Cloudflare are already targeting 2029 for full post-quantum migration.
Methodology
All figures are based on TechGaged research using data from the qLABS Quantum Vulnerability Index (April 2026), which ranks the 10 largest Layer-1 blockchains based on their exposure to quantum risk. Scores range from 0 to 10, with higher values indicating greater vulnerability. The index uses a weighted model combining market value at risk, data exposure, and preparedness to assess real-world vulnerability.
