The parents of disgraced FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) are reportedly seeking ways to secure a pardon from President Donald Trump for their imprisoned son. Mr. Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison last March after being convicted of stealing over $8 billion of customer funds from the now-defunct crypto exchange, FTX.

SBF’s Parents Seeks Pardon From President Trump

According to a source familiar with the development, SBF’s parents have had several meetings in recent weeks with lawyers and other individuals close to crypto-friendly Trump to discuss a potential clemency for their 32-year-old son. However, it is currently unclear if the parents’ outreach has been made to the White House.

The move comes after Trump’s recent pardon of Ross Ulbricht, the Silk Road founder who was imprisoned for life due to drug trafficking and money laundering activities associated with his online black market.

Ulbricht’s pardon might have encouraged SBF’s parents to explore ways of seeking leniency for their son. Additionally, there is growing hope among white-collar defendants that the new U.S. President may be open to hearing their cases.

SBF’s Dramatic Crash

Bankman-Fried has been serving his sentence at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York. He was imprisoned for orchestrating a massive fraud scheme with the cryptocurrency exchange he founded, FTX.

FTX, once considered one of the leading crypto exchanges, crashed and filed for bankruptcy protection. Its collapse is one of the biggest controversies in the history of the digital asset sector.

Despite the court ruling, which sentenced him to 25 years in prison, Sam Bankman-Fried has maintained that he is innocent. He even appealed to overturn his fraud conviction, criticizing the judge who presided over his trial for being unfair and biased. If his parents’ efforts pay off, Bankman-Fried will likely be happy to accept a pardon from US President Donald Trump.
