Ethereum’s recent recovery from the $1,400 lows could soon result in an Ethereum bear market. The price rally, which also mirrored Bitcoin’s recovery, is facing a critical challenge as a massive 77,000 ETH was moved to derivatives exchanges on April 16. This raises concerns about a potential sharp downturn. This influx is the most significant single-day transfer in many months. Similar moves were noticed on March 26 and April 3, followed by remarkable price drops. This suggests that institutional Ethereum investors may be preparing for a selloff.

Historical Patterns Hint at Ethereum Bear Market

Amr Taha, analyst at CryptoQuant, highlights that such large inflows to derivative markets often signal Ethereum whales hedging or taking short positions. “On March 26, an inflow of approximately 65,000 ETH was followed by a sharp decline in price,” he noted. He highlighted that similar patterns unfolded after April 3. The recent 77,000 ETH inflow now raises concerns about another pullback, especially with the Ethereum price around $1,580.

This behavior has also affected Bitcoin since the Black Monday crash. Economic uncertainty and international tensions are heavily influencing investor sentiment and risk appetite. The U.S.-China trade war has also led investors to seek safer investment options. This shift in attitude has pushed capital away from risk assets to safe stores of value like gold.

Institutional Strategies and Market Outlook Hint at Ethereum Bear Market

The constant flow of large amounts of Ethereum into the derivative markets shows that the Ethereum whales are positioning themselves strategically. They seem to aim to hedge risks or take advantage of anticipated price drops. While this does not guarantee a crash, it signals market unpredictability.

The recent recovery of major cryptos like Bitcoin has also seen similar volatility. This serves as a reminder to investors that short-term rallies do not corroborate an extended trend. The market remains vulnerable to external shocks. Currently, Ethereum whales are watching the prices closely, as sustained pressure could signal further downside for Ethereum. With that in mind, let’s take a quick peek at the latest Ethereum price action and figure out where it is going in the coming days.

Ethereum Price Analysis: $1,600 Continues to Elude Ethereum

Ethereum started trading at $1,588 yesterday. Although the price dipped initially, a general uptrend was observed, with Ethereum going up to $1,602, testing the $1,600 resistance. However, the buying pressure lost steam, and a brief downtrend followed. Ethereum attempted a trend reversal at 4:30 UTC, but the death cross on the MACD led it to drop to $1,560. It ascended again, but faced a reversal to establish support at $1,558. With the coin now oversold, Ethereum mustered a sharp uptrend, climbing rapidly at first, then forming a general uptrend to $1,567 at 15:00 UTC.

At this point, a golden cross was seen, as Ethereum climbed up to $1,605 in the coming hour. It failed to break the resistance at that level, and faced a reversal. Another attempt at the resistance led Ethereum to face strict correction, spiking all the way down to $1,546. It soon formed an uptrend, initially spiking up to $1,591 but facing resistance at that level. But the support line kept rising as Ethereum broke out upward, currently testing the $1,605 resistance.

Ethereum Price Prediction: Can Ethereum Maintain $1,600+ Gains Today?

Historically, the $1,600 level has been a key threshold for Ethereum to break. It has been struggling with this resistance for a few weeks now. If Ethereum is able to maintain $1,600+ levels today, it may set the stage up for Q2 gains. However, the RSI is overbought, which means a reversal should soon arrive. If Ethereum is able to find a support level close by, we can expect action above this threshold. If not, the Ethereum bear market might just be here.
