Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has launched a fresh attack on prominent stablecoin issuer Circle, noting that its activities harm the crypto market.
Hoskinson has a history of criticizing erring chains and establishments, which has earned him friends and enemies alike. In a recent post, he made derogatory comments about Circle’s operations, dragging on the latest controversy surrounding the issuer.
Hoskinson Renews Circle Feud
He criticized the second-largest stablecoin issuer for harming the industry through its operations. According to the founder, the Cardano ecosystem is better off as it did not integrate the stablecoin into its network.
Specifically, he lambasted Circle for its behavior during hard forks, a process where network operators make significant changes to the blockchain to upgrade its efficiency as it correlates with their roadmap.
Hoskinson highlighted that Circle barely aligns with the visions of its hosts and gets to choose whether to support a hard fork or not. He supported his claims with the situation seen in the Ethereum network.
For context, in Ethereum’s transition from the Proof of Work consensus to Proof of Stake in 2022, Circle noted that USDC will only operate on the new consensus. Furthermore, the firm insisted it would not support any PoW forks that emerged from the transition.
Cardano Founder’s Epic Circle Disclosure
Meanwhile, Hoskinson's recent post trailed an update from Cardano Foundation’s CEO, Frederik Gregaard, on a discussion with Circle. He disclosed meeting with Circle’s executive in the UAE to discuss a possible integration but failed in the course.
Nonetheless, Hoskinson mentioned earlier that the Cardano Foundation turned down a $3 million deal to add support for USDC in 2021. In a tweet, he disclosed that the Foundation, led by former CEO John MacPherson, rejected the offer only to see a preposterous figure when it picked it up years later.
Furthermore, he noted that Input Output Hong Kong (IOHK) was not involved in the negotiation and had no say in USDC’s integration into the ecosystem.
Hoskinson Teases RLUSD Partnership
Meanwhile, the Ethereum co-founder seems more focused on bringing the Ripple-USD (RLUSD) to the Cardano ecosystem than Circle’s USDC. He again recently talked up the ploy in a comment, stating he has actively discussed it with the Ripple team and hopes for a fruitful outcome.
The Crypto Basic reported a meeting between Hoskinson and Ripple representatives, including CEO Brad Garlinghouse and CTO David Schwartz. The discussion featured several topics, with the Cardano founder hinting that the RLUSD launch was one of them.
Moreover, XRPL dUNL validator Vet supported a Ripple-Cardano partnership. He tapped Hoskinson to accelerate the collaboration and not rely on Circle.
