Durov Brings Back “Gram”: TON Rebrand Sparks Big Rally

Telegram founder Pavel Durov has just dropped a nostalgic bombshell: the TON network’s native token is officially reverting to its original name — Gram.

The announcement sent the token rallying in a classic headline-driven move, as Pavel framed the change as a return to TON’s roots from its earliest white paper days.

Under the brand new branding, the blockchain itself will still be called TON, while the currency becomes Gram (often stylized as GRAM). Since the news hit, the rebranded GRAM coin bursted out 78% to trade at $0.00169 with a volume of $428K in 24 hours, says CoinMarketCap.

This is a pure rebrand, not a technical overhaul. There’s no token swap, no impact on balances, staking, or DeFi positions. It’s purely about naming and presentation — essentially positioning Gram as Telegram’s official in-app currency.

Reports suggest the transition will take around three weeks, with wallets, exchanges, and interfaces gradually updating tickers and branding. Expect some short-term volatility as the market digests the change.

Gram carries heavy history. It was the original name during Telegram’s ambitious 2018 TON push — a project that raised billions before running into serious regulatory walls with the U.S. SEC in 2020.

Telegram eventually stepped back, and the network evolved under community and TON Foundation stewardship.

Now, Pavel Durov is eagerly reclaiming that legacy. With Telegram’s humongous user base nearing one billion people, the rebrand is being seen as Telegram doubling down on crypto as a core part of its ecosystem — especially inside chats, Mini Apps, and creator tools.

For investors, the move is symbolic but strategically smart. A single, unified in-app currency could accelerate everyday usage. However, it also concentrates risk around Telegram’s platform. If Gram becomes the default payment rail inside Telegram, adoption could explode. If it’s mostly cosmetic, the hype may fade quickly once the rebrand is fully priced in.

Pavel Durov is leaning harder into TON than ever by reviving the Gram name. The nostalgia play is working in the short term, but the real test will be whether this rebrand translates into meaningful on-chain growth and everyday usage inside Telegram’s enormous user base.

The Gram era is officially back — aside from nostalgia, market connoisseurs are watching closely if they can cop a bag at an early price.
