Cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin has announced the launch of its “Anti-Phishing Month” initiative, a comprehensive campaign aimed at combating phishing threats through a combination of user education, technical defenses, and incentive-based engagement.

The campaign comes amid a global surge in phishing incidents, with the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) reporting over 1 million attacks in Q1 2025 alone. Financial and payment platforms were the most targeted, representing more than 30% of all attacks. SMS and email phishing remain the most prevalent methods, affecting users across Europe, Asia, and Australia.

KuCoin’s initiative reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to its “Security as a Service” principle, which prioritizes user protection as essential to long-term platform sustainability. The exchange is reinforcing this approach by introducing a structured and interactive security awareness campaign that blends proactive education with reward mechanisms.

“Anti-Phishing Month” introduces a user-centered learning model called “Learn + Quiz + Defend.” Participants are encouraged to complete educational modules, take quizzes, and activate anti-phishing codes. These actions not only build phishing awareness but also offer users incentives for engaging in protective behaviors.

In addition to this time-limited campaign, KuCoin has established a number of permanent risk management tools and protocols designed to enhance account security:

  • Intelligent Risk Control System: The platform utilizes a phishing detection engine that identifies and blocks suspicious login attempts and unauthorized withdrawals. On average, it prevents over 5,000 high-risk access attempts each day.

  • End-to-End Security Alerts: Core account functions such as logins, fund withdrawals, and API bindings are monitored through real-time alerts and protected by multi-factor authentication (MFA), ensuring that users remain informed of any critical activity.

  • Ongoing Educational Resources: KuCoin offers a dedicated “Security Academy” through its website and mobile app, featuring regular phishing case studies and practical security tips to help users improve their detection skills.

BC Wong, CEO of KuCoin, emphasized the shared nature of cybersecurity responsibilities:

“Security should not only be the responsibility of the platform, it should be an ability every user possesses. Through Anti-Phishing Month, we aim to merge technology and education to create a crypto ecosystem where every user is equipped to protect themselves. At KuCoin, we believe true security is a shared responsibility: while we continue to provide robust safeguards, every user can also strengthen their own protection through continuous self-learning.”

KuCoin plans to expand its combined “Education + Defense” framework in the coming months, reinforcing its commitment to providing a safer and more transparent trading environment for users worldwide.
