Curve Finance has assured the safety of users’ funds following a Domain Name System (DNS) attack. The platform stated that its smart contracts and internal systems remain secure despite the breach.
Notably, this DNS attack has impacted Curve’s market value. Data shows that the asset is down by 5.5% in the past 24 hours and is currently trading at $0.7211.
Curve Finance Assures Safety of Users’ Funds
In a recent post, Curve Finance confirmed that the curve [.] fi domain was compromised at the DNS level late last night. As detailed by the platform, the hackers changed the website settings. As a result, when users tried to visit its official site, they were secretly sent to a different, fake website.
This fake site was hosted on a malicious IP address that has nothing to do with Curve Finance. The attackers’ goal was likely to trick users into giving up sensitive information or stealing their funds.
Curve Finance emphasised that the exploit did not impact the protocol’s core systems and was limited only to the DNS layer. They further assured users that their funds are safe and Curve smart contracts remain secure.
Additionally, the platform noted that it is actively investigating the issue. It is also working with its domain registrar and security partners to regain control.
“We are actively working with the domain registrar to resolve the issue and restore normal operations as soon as possible. This incident is not related to any breach of internal systems,” the team stated.
Curve Finance urges users to avoid interacting with the domain until further notice. It also advises users to stay informed through official channels. The protocol emphasises its commitment to user safety and is implementing enhanced security measures to prevent future incidents.
Not the First Time
This is not the first time Curve Finance has suffered a DNS breach. In 2022, hackers compromised the platform’s DNS. This resulted in over $500,000 worth of assets being siphoned before the issue was contained.
Additionally, Curve Finance’s X (formerly Twitter) account was briefly compromised earlier this month. This latest breach highlights ongoing security threats in the DeFi space. Several other crypto projects have also reported similar attacks in recent weeks.
